When he gets to college and doesn't like the professor's attitude, shall he strike? What about his future employer, strike? The cashier at Publix was rude, strike. The electric company charged me too much, strike. Mortgage is too high, strike.

Just catching up on this, but part of the reason for the good pay for a ref is to put up with the crowd. I don't have sympathy for any ref that gets yelled at. Now if it's personal or threatening, that's different. But for run of the mill foul or out of bounds, refs should get over it.

For every parent I've ever seen cross the line, I've seen ten refs stand at midfield, hungover, lazy, or high, barely move, and miss as many calls as they get. I'm more concerned with that.

Referees don't need it. As a coach myself, if any of my players say a word to a referee they are immediately substituted. I think the strike would benefit massively and hopefully wake the local leagues up a little bit!
Even in the EPL, all these players get paid large amounts, and still think it's acceptable to belittle another human who is doing a job.

No one, NO ONE, made him become a referee. The environment existed long before. It was not a surprise. Don't like it? Don't do it.

Poster did say issues big and small - point being there have been countless accepted behavior over the decades that now is not. This is an attempt to change for the better. Beyond a societal need for adults to behave better and model good behavior for children, the need for refs is acute. It's already a big issue and as more teens drop out it means fewer teens turn into adult refs.

Just cheer for your kid and leave the referees alone. Maybe the refs can follow you to your job one day and heckle you. I can hear it now: "the fry machine is beeping, take out the fries now!"

When you are objectively able to sit back and watch your kids game or any game you quickly see why we have a huge shortage of refs. 99% of the parents are complete whack jobs that think every ref is out to get them on every play. It's amazing how parents can be directly across from the keeper and somehow see that the offside call made 70 yards away was the "worst call ever". Having bad refs is a direct response of not having enough refs from kids quitting the game after one year. My 18 year old has been working since 16 and the money is not worth the headache the moment you are able to find something better.

Mine has put up with it because he can make decent coin in a short amount of time and with sports and school the schedule works. But he has no plans to continue after HS graduation and that is what is needed - more refs with more experience. Too many kids drop out of the system and the ones that stay aren't always our best and brightest lol
