Draining the swamp..Oregon clubs registered in the ECNL

Timbers Academy for boys covers all the costs outside of a $500 security deposit.

The Thorns Academy coming in 17-18, for 3 girls teams will be covering. all the costs outside of a security deposit as well.

Now this forum, will finally be able to fold on the topic of HS Girls Soccer.

Just as it did for boys soccer above u15 a few years ago.

Thanks Hank P. & the too big to Fail bailout here in Oregon...

    Happy New Year!!!!!!!!!!

Nice job trying to change the topic. But we will be here every day to remind you that the "untraditional" thorns academy teams get their wins by playing down. And with the NWSL on the verge of folding and the national team players ready to strike because they can't get paid a living wage, your claim that academy will be free aside from a security deposit is laughably sad. Unless you mean the deposit is $10k per year? Which...knowing the powers that be at thorns, is probably the case.

$10K? I heard it's $20K+ per year in the GDA Thorns Academy. And no HS soccer. And playing in a league comparable to OYSA 2nd division.

Hearing something is simply that, seeing LOSC/THUSC & FC Portland in person pay that amount you mention, have no relevant players in the HS Ranks and fielding teams that are comparable to OYSA 2nd divsion has been in Vogue for 2 years, welcome in 2017 as the last year of this insanity.

Thornz will be very expensive. Travel costs a lot. Probably more than ECNL league.

Portland Oregon is an anomaly when it compared to all other metropolitan areas in the U.S, for some reason our fan base is literally 10 fold bigger at game day matches than all other NWSL cities/teams. Peregrine LLC has decided to fold the tent on the expensive and now useless 'u23' mens team and re-direct funding to the (3) youth Thorns Academy girls teams for 2017-18.

Consolidating the best of the best talent in PDX metro and SW Washington will be a seamless transition for girls, without the worry and travel expense centered at FC Porltand & LOSC/THUSC clubs currently.

So folding one u23 team that travels to 8 away games and does one tournament per year is going to cover the cost of "fully funding" three Thorns teams that are required to travel to 15 away games per season (per GDA info found online)? That is some interesting math...

u23 men's have: Administration costs, ticket staff cost, concession and game management cost, coaching staff costs, venue costs, referee costs, marketing costs, advertising costs, etc.... just the Franchise alone has an annual fee for PDL around 75K, sorry you haven't looked into funding a PDL team.

Throw in the costs of flying 10 to 15 collegiate players from across the US and having to cover their lodging and food for the summer. Very expensive venture. With little return based on ticket sales and interest.

It's a shame you are so uninformed, but understandable given your background and experience.

So all those things add up to $750k/year? Ok. Guess those untraditional thorns teams are in great shape. Now if they can just develop a high enough level of play that they don't have to play down anymore. But hey if it's free my guess is they'll get the higher skilled ECNL players to move over and their teams will do just fine. Shame for your kid though. Wasting a year playing untraditional soccer and then getting bumped off the team by an influx of ECNL players wanting this great deal of free elite soccer. I'm sure there will be a spot for her on her old TA team. I hear they love thorns players and would welcome her back.

You fail to understand that the net profit margin collected by Peregrine annually with it's 3rd party outsourcing of the simple task of league/cup registration- scheduling for the OYSA is simply off the charts from any known business practice on planet earth, outside of just plain theft. This revenue profit center can't be all profit for peregrine at year end, as uncle sam and the state want around 40% any profit gleaned from (the business of) OYSA scheduling and league registration fee. conservative net profit figures for this enterprise surpass 2milllion, that's $800,000 (40%) that could be spent on other peregrine non revenue producing expenses like the Youth academies as an example vs going to uncle Sam and the state tax man. Throw in the MLS and US Soccer commitment of dollars into the pot and you have a reinvestment into the youth development. FC PDX & LOSC/THUSC have no such template or ally for funding other than affluent parents who sign up for travel to slaughter.

OYSA can't spend it only Hank's Kid can...

thornz makes no sense. Expensive and you have to give up your high school life to participate.

If you only have to give a deposit to the Thorns to be part of the program and they cover all the training, league fees, travel fees, field cost & lights wouldn't that be just like getting a scholarship for Soccer? With the added bonus of being scouted by all the colleges at the GDA events? What girl wouldn't tryout in Oregon? With the trade off being give up a Sept/Oct HS recreational season? Given all the perks? Maybe Oregon youth soccer leagues can re calibrate and have hearty local leagues once again, with a handful of the top girls off in the Girls Development Academy? vs the train wreck currently?

Getting rid of High School soccer maybe the only thing that GDA has right. High School soccer is very poor. They don't train enough and there is no development for three months. The best players should be running away from High School soccer

Hank P was the secretary of Treasury for the U.S. they pay for everything which includes Healthcare. With a clause for mental health care for just Oregon Soccer girls parents. See, the government isn't so bad.
