    Alex Morgan leavign for Lyon

Pretty sad when a player who's not even the best player on her club team, a team that is very bad, playing in a very bad league, feels that she's too good for the league. Just watch her fail in Lyon - the rest of that team has actual talent. Morgan will be lucky to get any playing time at all.

Of course, also a big black eye for the NWSL - how bad is a league that can't even hold onto it's 2nd tier players?

Jerky post for sure but there is a point in there. NWSL can't afford to pay their top players what overseas teams can pay. But they're going to have enough to fund GDA? Mmmkay...

NWSL can't pay players is the problem. Average player makes like $5000 a year. Makes you wonder how they are going to pay for the GDA?

They're not. GDA - with the exception of a few clubs and the token scholarship here and there - will be pay to play. Problem solved.

Kinda sad but nowhere other then PDX does women's pro soccer put large amounts of Butts in seats. Its an economic issue.

Unfortunately Women's team sports can not support themselves. WNBA or NWSL. As soon as the players unionize and demand higher salaries the league will fold. The top players are paid by their respective Federations and the other players make very little. The league can not support higher salaries and it does not matter how long the league exists they will never draw enough people or get a TV contract large enough to support itself. The end is inevitable.

This is sad but true. Wish it wasn't.

Love that this town shows up and supports the ladies. Nice for our girls to see.

Dude, you are one lost puppy.
France runs the best Female Academies in the world. USWNT may have won the World Cup but they are beginning to fall behind in how they train and prepare players. Why wouldn't Alex want to go play somewhere where they are teaching the game correctly?

I will give you a hint-France doesn't have a money grabbing no developmental based league like ECNL. We need to change our model, other countries are catching us

"Why wouldn't Alex want to go somewhere where they are teaching the game correctly?" Congrats on the dumbest Talking-Soccer statement I've seen in a while. This has to do with money pure and simple. Do you honestly think she signed thinking "gosh I have a lot to learn about being a better soccer player. I'll go to France - their youth system teaches players so much better and that will help me be a better player." It's all about the Benjamins and good for her. The U.S. pro league can't afford to pay female players what the European leagues can pay. (Yet somehow, magically, the same U.S. pro league will be able to afford millions for a GDA!) You will see more U.S. players doing this and again, good for them. Get paid while you can still play, ladies.

And those who say the U.S. should just pony up and pay the same wages as European clubs need to go back to school and take an Econ class. European soccer has virtually no competition from other sports for the consumer's dollar. In the states soccer is 4th/5th tier at best. European nations also tax the stuffing out of their citizens and those tax dollars go to build stadiums and underwrite the teams. U.S. voters obviously don't want that style of government.
