The no high school rule will have little effect on the new girls DA. There will be more than enough talented players who are willing to forego playing crappy high school soccer to fill these rosters.
If a player wants to to play high school than they can stay with their OYSA club team or spend $7K to $10k per year for ECNL, instead of $2k all in for the GDA.
I find it real funny that people are arguing FOR high school soccer since it is considered true recreational level by every college coach. Which is why they don't scout high school games.
You should all be happy, there are more options now than ever before for girls soccer players. If ECNL in Oregon attracted many of the top girls players for $7k to $10k per year, the GDA will have no issue finding good players for only $2k per year.

Originally posted by Unregistered View PostWhat posters are overlooking is that they are asking all 24 players to give up HS soccer. It's one thing to give it up when you are a legitimate star player (and they have a few) who will start and play most minutes of every GDA game. But they are mandating players 15-24 give up high school soccer too. Keep in mind the sub rules mean only 14 girls play per game. And the rule saying every player starts 25% of games doesn't prevent them from starting your benchwarmer and pulling her after 5 minutes. There is only one thing that will possibly allow them to fill a roster beyond the top 14 - parents unrealistic expectations. Every parent expects his little Mia to be in the top 3 of the team. Expect massive turnover every year for players 15-24. No one will stay longer than a year to miss out on high school soccer AND spend a year being a practice cone for the real stars.
People also thought not playing high school would be a big deal for the boys, and it hasn't been at all. The majority of the boys academy players have dreams of playing professionally, like most boys high school football and basketball players dream of playing in the NFL & NBA. But, when you speak with them they recognize what a longshot that is.
So, the boys want to play at the highest level they can run right now, and that is in the boys academy. It will be the same for the girls. It may take a year or two, but soon enough the girls DA will have a large selection of the top players. The $2,000 fee practically guarantees it.
