The Thorns Academy will be brand new program this fall and one of the first clubs accepted into the GDA, did you hear they applied also for the ECNL league as well? Do tell. Given the NWSL connection they could pick and choose whatever league they wanted, looks like they chose or US Soccer chose them. It's understandable this selection given our local club fare and lack of regional national quality.

While thats an interesting offer, it's been confirmed by front office that all current Thorns players are staying in the NWSL vs moving to US GDA as the are too old.

Rumors of some of them coaching in the US GDA continue to create a buzz for the locals.

Think everyone that did thorns last year quit so they are trying a softer approach this year to try to get some wins. Maybe everyone won't quit this year.

Does it even matter? what approach was used for the local OYSA ODP/RTC Girls Thorns 2016-17 edition, the reality this program is being shelved in less than 6 months and the NWSl Thorns are instead going with a new model of fielding Development Academy teams while covering all of the travel and coaching costs for those selected.

Breaking away from the USYS/ODP model and going directly with the federation Development Academy Model, it's amazing that Oregon now has a Boys DA and Girls DA both with direct linkage to the MLS and NWSL not to mention US Soccer.

Only if they want to get completely throttled every game next year. Somehow, the Thorns need to find a way to lure the real talent in Oregon, the girls at the ECNL clubs, to their debacle of an organization. Good luck with that!

Please. You could take the best of the fcp and cu 01s and they wouldn't beat the current 01/02 thorns team.

Both of the Ecnl Oregon teams are weak, why put the 03s against them when the 03s aren't even top 3 in their state.

While your post is full of assurance (arrogance?), there is simply no way to know. Thorns academy can't qualify for the events the ECNL clubs are doing. And the ECNL clubs don't bother with the events thorns academy enters. See last summer with CU teams doing surf cup and thorns playing in Beaverton cup for a prime example. I know it feels good to pummel decimated TA teams and poor Alaska, but those results don't register a blip on the level of ECNL matches.
