If it's 25 percent that's five kids. It wouldn't be 50 percent.. because with a 20 player cap, that would mean they would have to cut current 04s in the program which they would not do. So let's say each team has 5 or 6 kids from the 05 age group. What happens in 2018 when the 05s then merge with 06s? There will hardly be any 05s in the program but a full group of 06s. No real. Enegit to the 05s in any of these scenarios.

      Meant "no real benefit" above.

The 05's can simply play on year outside of the DA program. This scenario gives the best of the 05's a chance to be challenged at a higher level. However, unless they're good enough to be in the top half of the DA team, they'd probably be better served developing with their 05 group outside of the DA.

Above post is 100% on the money. If your son is way above Premiere level average and is on the older end .. i.e. First quarter birthdate in 05 year.. DA might be worth it if the rest of the team makeup are high level 04s. Otherwise the entire higher level 05 player pool will be better served in OYSA and at a club that can provide them with solid and thoughtful out of state championship competition and a full roster of like minded and higher skilled peers.

05s are 5th & 6th graders. How many elementary school kids will be traveling to "out of state championship competition"?

ADF will be doing Surf Cup and likely SuperCopa in addition to Crossfire Challenge. There's a good argument that this is too much too early, but at least the option is out there for players and families.

Many! Crossfire and Westside did NWCL.. Many will participate in FWRL. Clash of the Border is in Vancouver, and several clubs do tournaments in the Seattle area. This fall these kids will be 6th and 7th graders.

That is nice to know. Really great competition opportunities!

Spending that much time and money on travel at a young age isn't about development, it is about results and trophies. Too bad, as ADF attracts talent but doesnt want to develop it.

Agree with you. Especially since their top teams will likely suffer heavy player losses to DA clubs at their key age groups next year. I wonder why they didn't apply for DA???

Call and ask the DOC. He was invited by a few clubs last year to run their DA programs and declined. None of ADF players went to 04 DA last year. The 04s are a terrific team. I believe they won FWRL and will be playing in Regionals which was surely better competition than playing 9v9 watered down 04/05 blended teams.
As for tournaments the competition can be fantastic and atmosphere really thrilling for the players. ADF doesn't waste time and money when the kids are ready on meaningless competitions like Mt Hood Challenge or Beaverton Cup. Look at the Supercopa tournament coming up in June and you will see the ADF 04s playing in the DA Bracket.

He doesn't have the license to run a DA program, but yes clubs want his players . . . for the record, he called some clubs too.

That doesn't take away from what he has built . . . just be careful assuming clubs want his model (it is kind of a hot mess honestly).

If your real motivation is the development of your child, then programs like the DA are what you should be looking for. More training, and fewer games. There's certainly no reason to be looking to travel as far as possible for competition or trophies when there is plenty opportunity in our own back yard at this age. The kids are actively scouted at their DA games. The best of the best are invited to participate in the USSDA training centers to compete with the other top kids in the area. The winter futsal showcase last weekend was a great time. All in all, it's a great program that my son has thoroughly enjoyed.

Why are the DA boys struggling so much in conference? Both teams are in the lower half of standings, being the only MLS Academy to be in such a position in both age groups. Maybe it's time the Timbers organization takes this program more seriously, and invests more into the academy.
