And while for a time COVID was the number three cause of death, it has now moved down to number six behind cardiovascular, respiratory, cancer, dementia and sepsis.

Should we shelter in space because germs cause sepsis? outlaw mcdonald’s and dairy queen? Not leave the house because everything causes brain damage leading to dementia?

Stores are open, you can shop at Nordstrom’s, go to the mall. Why are beyond logical reasoning to keep 10 year olds from playing soccer. it’s now just political.

It’s time to move to stage 3 and let kids play soccer. You don’t want to play, that’s fine, stay home.
You should try not to talk so much. You'll sound far less stupid that way.

So you believe we 16 states not playing fall sports are smarter than the 34 playing?

Of course, no answer to the question. When asked, evade, dodge, make fun, nobody will notice that you actually have no answer as to why we are different than the other 34 states in the country playing.

No. I was merely pointing out the logical fallacy and misdirection inherent in the question. Your inability to grasp that simply proves my point. Thanks for playing. Better luck next time.

Here's the breakdown. Apparently the only six states (plus DC) that are not currently allowing at least some HS sports in the fall and are still generally not allowing youth club games seem to be California, Oregon, Washington, Virginia, Nevada and DC. Seven more states have various sport-specific guidelines that include delays for some sports: Colorado (some sports like cross country and softball still on, and club soccer and other club sports are now playing), Connecticut (delayed football only, playing other sports like girls soccer), Hawaii (delayed hs sports but playing club sports), Illinois (delayed football and soccer, but playing some other hs sports), Maryland (delayed hs sports, but have allowed intra-club games for a month or so and began allowing competitive games this week), Massachusetts (delayed football but playing fall soccer and other sports), Minnesota (delayed football, but playing girls hs soccer, other sports, and club sports), and North Carolina (delayed football and boys hs soccer, playing all other sports).

                    https://www.maxpreps.com/news/qiL5GO...d-pandemic.htm

Michigan was planning to move to spring but changed course a couple days ago and all outdoor sports are now permitted in the fall. Delaware similarly just started allowing all youth sports to begin playing (with a detailed set of safety protocols depending on the risk category for each sport).

So it looks like the only places still can't play any soccer games are Washington, California, Oregon, Illinois (which as of a week ago allows intra-club full squad scrimmages), Virginia, Nevada, and DC. Washington (and even more so Oregon) have far fewer cases and deaths, as a % of population, than the other states that still are not allowing youth sports, and has far better covid numbers than many of the states that are allowing youth sports. If there were reports in the states that have reopened that playing sports is leading to increased transmission, hospitalization, and death it would of course make sense to keep youth sports shut down, but there just aren't any such reports.

Geography and population density may be a factor but I noticed that list is of the top liberal states. Besides NV, I don't believe they are very left leaning. If political ideology is a main driver in the decision, what makes NV the outlier here?

All of the states not currently allowing youth soccer are predominantly democratic states, but there also also plenty of blue states (New York, New Jersey, Colorado, etc) that are allowing a much broader range of youth sports activities despite a similar or worse status of virus cases and hospitalizations, and there are some states with Republican governors (Maryland, Massachusetts) that have been slower than most to reopen. Nevada is now fairly solidly a blue state, but it's approach to the pandemic has been pretty unique and not anything I'd call liberal or conservative so much as Vegas-driven -- opening casinos very early despite the widespread recognition that indoor spaces with lots of old people together are a bad idea, allowing youth travel basketball tournaments indoors, but not allowing outdoor soccer, etc. While many people cast the different approaches to the pandemic as politically driven, a lot of it seems to come down to different views among different local public health officials (most of whom are dealing with their first and hopefully only pandemic, and all of whom have been going full speed in figuring out to deal with this new virus since February with lot of conflicting and ever-changing information coming from the national level authorities at the CDC and in Washington).

Excellent post and insight. Decisions may be more heavily influenced by local situations than national wide situations.

I enjoyed reading intelligent posts on forums and twitter. It is a good reminder to me than maybe the whole nation is not dumbed down. Even when I disagree with people, I love it when they respond with an intelligent, mature respond. Off topic, lets all try to be more civil and grownup, the nation is getting kind of scary right now. Ask any immigrant who fled a dangerous nation, in the beginning it looks like a small issue, than things snowball and it isn't just some random guy getting killed, it is someone you know.

Here are some facts. According to the NCAA, most of your kids will not play in college.
                              About 7.2% out of 400k soccer girls will be in D1-3, 2.4%, 1.9%, 2.9%.
                              Boys even better. 5.6% of out 460k will be in D1-3. 1.3%, 1.5%, 2.7%
If your kid is a stud, this won't matter. If your isn't a stud, this won't matter.

So, relax angry dads and moms. All will be known by U15-16. By then, it will be too late to switch sports or to do anything about it. Clubs got most of your money by then, so it does
not matter. Let your kids enjoy the ride and tell them to hit the books. Good luck.
