Just pointing out that the reason for kick-ins isn't because they don't want kids touching the ball, but rather they don't want kids packed in together jostling around in front of the thrower. A kick-in is easier to get directly to a teammate, so kids are naturally more spread out.

That makes no sense. But either does anything Charlie Baker with the sexual molestor son AJ Baker does. Do you have any proof of that theory?

And you are right. The OP is misguided. The elimination of the throw-in in favor of a kick-in is precisely to avoid the players touching the ball with their hands.

Ah, no. It's because of the hands. And since they are supposed to keep the ball on the ground off a kick-in it's hard to see how a kick-in makes it much easier to get the ball directly to a teammate. The kick-ins appear to essentially be what you see in futsal with players hardly kicking it any further than they could throw it.

Why are players allowed to pick the ball up with their hands in a game

They are not supposed to with the new modified (Covid) rules. If they do, the ball is supposed to be swapped out with another and sprayed with disinfectant before it can be used.

Concussion concerns will top covid and become the reason for the elimination of heading, Like it or not.

Some of the new rules do not make any sense, such as what purpose is there in not allowing the goalie to punt the ball past the half way line? Also should each venue/location restrict attendees by their physical size on what they can be safely social distance? When I go with my wife, we are laterally 20 feet away from the next couple, while parents from the other team are standing together, outside the gate, looking through the fence to watch. But even with the rules that don't make any sense, it is still enjoyable to watch, as a parent, and far, far better then no soccer at all.

For the latter, the other team's parents are probably not allowed at away games. Hence they are outside the gate. If they are standing together, that is really their choice and their risk, but the rules are there to protect them and they obviously didn't follow the rules. Hence, they can't blame the school if they get infected from standing too close to other parents.
For the punting rule, I still can't figure that one out. Unless MIAA thought GKs would play in more out of the back if they couldn't punt it far, and that might lead to less player contact.

Don't know - it's a mystery. Maybe they just want fewer contested balls where physical contact normally occurs. Or maybe it's something simple like they realized that the no-contact rules really limit defensive effectiveness and letting goalies just kick the ball into the other team's end was too much of an advantage.

Helmets? *** are you talking about? Those padded headbands are in no way, shape or form the equivalent of a helmet.

There's nothing to figure out. All the rules were handed down by the imbecile Katie Theoharides at MA EEA - Who by the way ignores WHO guidelines about kids wearing masks while playing.

Those rules are then handed down to MA DESE, and then finally to MIAA. These are not MIAA rules or guidelines, they can only work with what they're given by the state, no matter how stupid they are.
