Tampa Bay Area 2015/16 U 17 Boys A Big Year

The u17/18 teams have already been chosen at Clearwater, and Ocys. Last year alone WFF sent 3 players to college( 1 to D1).

Academies will always take good players. Orlando City had 14 kids go off to college with 10 of those being D1. So I think it is obvious the exposure at Academy is much greater than club. If you live locally to one of these clubs and don't care about playing D1 then there is no problem playing. But to actually travel to one of these teams would be insane.

What are the needs of each club who has the most needs

If you have any desire to play D1 soccer in college then you really must avoid all of these 4 teams and go to the Academy. If you look at the previous U18 teams from these 4 clubs which is probably 70+ players only around half a dozen are moving onto play college and only 1 of those is D1.

Your closest Academy choices are Clearwater, IMG, and Orlando City.

I don't drink that academy cool aid. No good academy option in the Tampa Bay Area anyhow.

GK - also started with team at WC left for TBU and came back this past season. Not sure if he made the Clearwater Academy but good GK

Others are undecided but majority heading to WC and a couple may stay depending on who is staying. Tough to know exactly where most will end up. Team will attract a few players from TBU that didn't get much playing time and the attraction of FSPL is the only hope for GTB to have a team in this age group.

There a several paths to play college soccer. Academy is certainly one of them. Not the only one. D1 has its pros and cons, so do D2 and NAIA. Do some research and help your kid decide what's best for them. Don't go all in to scheme based on what's posted on this esteemed site.

WFF seems to be quite roster must be pretty much set
TBU must be concerned returning players are being told they already have a spots guaranteed
GTB spin masters are out. Players have been out at NPL tryouts. Who knows what is going to happen.
Clearwater some core players have been looking around spots open for quality players they also have the benefit of academy. That may get a player exposure to academy if that is a goal
