Congrats to Boca! Look forward to those road games down there. We had a great time during Final Four at FAU. Only drawback is the amount of damage soccer moms can do at the Town Center. ECNL just got more expensive in the SEC.

No increase in expenses, same crappy coaches, same crappy fields. So it all goes into the Eich back pocket. Unless there's a payoff to ECNL prez, don't be surprised. That's the only thing that makes much sense.

      Default Ecnl decision forthcoming
I am so tired of reading pages and pages about BU and speculation about when the ECNL teams will be announced and how they decided on BOca United for S. fla. I will give you the absolute straight facts whether you want to believe it or not these are the facts. Our club is ECNL in Fl (so now you know I'm on staff at one of two clubs.) ECNL board members met with a handful of clubs a couple weeks ago in Tampa that they had at one time or another had considered becoming an ECNL club. The main clubs the ECNL BOD met with were TBU, FKK, Jax, Ponte Vedre, Boca U, Team Boca, & Weston. Jax was the immediate choice to add from N Fl, period, end of discussion. Tophat from GA will also join that areas addition. As far as S Fl, Sunrise did not have any representation, period. ECNL was told they were waiting to determine whether there was a potential partnership with other clubs possible since they did not have the facilities necessary. The was some subsequent discussion that Team Boca may form a partnership with Sunrise but never came to pass for whatever reason. Team Boca had previously stated to ECNL board that they were interested in a discussion but felt their club ultimately wouldn't be the right fit. Further discussion proved to be exactly the case. Team Boca ultimately did not want to displace their local players with players from what potentially could be a hundred plus miles. TB also did not want to encourage (or force) players to give up high school soccer which is coming down the pike. And the main reason TB wasn't the right fit was because they would ultimately have to hire a completely new staff because all their u15-u18 coaches are current college coaches which would put them in NCAA violation of coaching or training players who live outside a certain mile radius of their campus. TB was not prepared to adhere to all of the required ECNL policies. PLUS TB didn't want to consider a merger of clubs which could have made it possible for them to work around all of the issues that I've stated. Weston was also a club that had serious consideration since they have shown not only are they a larger club with a history of success, but they didn't have college coaches on staff that would pose a conflict and they have national team coaches aboard and in place. They also have a Boys DA. But, at the end the doc of Boca United made a compelling presentation that they would follow any and all EXNL rules, policies, and directives set forth by the league. They would take all players no matter how far they come from and whether or not those players displace all their existing players or not (which is a key factor and requirement in club selection). Plus the BU representatives at the meeting made a strong and compelling argument that if ECNL wants a southern area of fl club to succeed they should only select one club and not two. ECNL execs ultimately agreed, which left Weston out of the mix. So the bottom line is that out of all the clubs that everyone would expect to be in consideration it really came down to BU & Weston and at the end of it all it came down what many believe to be BU because the BU DOC's are very close friends with key decision makers on the board. Believe me it is a fact, that many, many ECNL coaches and clubs are up in arms over the selection of BU because it lowers the standards that ECNL clubs and the BOD have tried very hard to keep at the highest level. ECNL board members have received numerous calls complaining about BU being selected because of their lack of developmental success. All the comments written over the pages of pages on these threads everyone knows to be true, there no denying it. BU has never had one real successful team so an argument that they develop players is unfounded. Many ECNL clubs and staff, including ours, is extremely worried about the future of ECNL if decisions like this continue to be made. But if ultimately there were only two real clubs in south Florida who really wanted it and were actually considered then these type of bad decisions will happen. More of the better and larger S Fl clubs who would accept the ECNL rules should have gotten together and made a compelling argument why their club or clubs should have been selected. If that happened then you wouldn't all be on here moaning and complaining about BU being selected. I personally wish BU success because as a league we are dependent on other clubs being competitive but I'm not very confident to say the least. So trust me, new ECNL CLUBS BEING ANNOUNCED VERY SOON ARE JAX, BU, AND TOPHAT. Whether we all like it or not!

Weston is the club that really got tatood. They were one of the only clubs that really wanted ECNL and would have been a way better choice since all the best southern players would have all flocked there. I don't see players going to BU to be in any league. Especially one as negligent as ECNL if they can pick BU.

Weston is just the Broward version of BU plus a few fields. That's it. They have also been a big loser in terms of girls development and solid girls teams. Has Weston had one good girls team in the last 10 years?

Team Boca hosted the Final Four Showcase and their home fields are at FAU and less than 1/2 mile from the Town Center.
Boca United however is 20 mins Southwest into the edge of the Everglades Swamp National Park. There is a Chuckee Cheese and Target about 2 miles from the park where they play their games when playable. But, we are being told that Boca United is coming here to Orlando to play their ECNL home games since their fields make Boggy Creek look elite!

This is all true. So please name one other ECNL club, even one that has never had one single state championship team in over 20 years of being a club, like Boca United. ECNL just lowered their bar as low as possible. Instead of what should be a big day for south Florida it's a sad one. What a horrible decision by ECNL

So are there any clubs in S FL that are worthy of ECNL?

Talent is plenty in South Florida and will show up for tryouts. BU is only the platform, the players will surely make the ECNL name proud.

Boca United will do a great job. Apparently they can only put Ecnl links and info on their website www.Gbysa.org for now.

Try outs for ECNL girls are this coming Monday and Wednesday at Loggers Run Park. Times will be coming out over the weekend.
Don't listen to all the negativity. It's mostly coming from people who are unhappy. Unhappy their club wasn't chosen. Unhappy that some of their best players might come to BU.

BU is a great club with great coaching. More details will be on the ECNL and BU websites soon.

Keep defending your BU - yes, they got ECNL, but it's in no way related to their success! They are a mediocre club, with horrible facilities, but coaches that know how to work the system. Look at the 17's. Amazing group of players that have done SQUAT the past two years after winning SC. People are unhappy because this was by far the poorest choice for ECNL and will make FL look even more weak then they already do - we only have a 50% success rate and it's only going down from there.
