Keep in mind that the "top teams" aren't selected only on talent. It comes at a huge commitment and price in time and money and what the kids give up. And they are partly a vanity project for the kids' parents, and a shot at a college career for some.
Plus it's mostly irrelevant to the sport at large in MA and NE, because it's so small:
ECNL - 3 teams at 2 clubs in MA (out of 9 teams in this region)
GAL - 2 teams in MA (out of 8)
There are so many more clubs in NEP, and quite a few in EDP though who really knows since they don't have a league really. Sure, the average team would get beat down by ECNL or GAL. But there are many kids and likely a few teams that would match up OK with ECNL and GAL.
Not every player wants to do ECNL or GAL.
So sure, if you don't count all those kids. There are at least as many excellent players not in ECNL/GAL as there are players in those leagues.

^^. Agree. MOST of your top players play in top leagues. The bottom of the rosters are better in top leagues.
The 50-75% in the middle are interchangeable. Their place on those teams is determined by logistics, realistic opportunity, and finances vs pure talent.

Its a joke DA, ecnl, ECNL-Regional, DPL, NPL, GA, GDA.
Girls and boys are not the same level of play.

The concept of there being an equivalent TEAM is a stretch. The middle of the rosters are NOT interchangeable. Given the waiting list for an ECNL/GA team (ecrl, etc.) the big difference between those top teams and all others is the bottom of the roster. Sure the great athlete who rules the field could play ECNL/DA but she would most likely find herself fighting for PT in the middle of the roster, simply because she hasn't had enough experience playing with and against a field full of players as athletic as her.
