The athleticism and quality of play is one thing. Traveling to places like Florida and California for showcases on their own(without helicopter parents) demonstrates independence that coaches need when recruits show up on campus. DA intills a bit of independence and demonstrates grit and commitment to task to coaches and admissions.
Oh yeah, and what makes you think the top talent will stay at pay-to-play non-MLS clubs when they can trek to MLS clubs and play for free with really top players? This will do what DA could not .... force talent to move cluster together in fewer clubs, thereby weakening non-mls clubs even more ..... and where do you think college coaches will shop? MLS academys or elsewhere .... non-MLS DA will be equal to or less than boys ECNL in a year or two.

If you can pay, you’re in so don’t be ignorant of the facts. p2P simple Susan
Every branch within New england .... except for GPS and Rush which can't hire bad coaches fast enough to give stupid parents exactly what they want .... a $3000 fee for their kid to play on a super-de-duper, special premier team.

How do they all get 50% athletic money at a D1?? GPS’ model is promote their European connection to get players/money in the door, but then don’t hire quality coaches and pay them as little as possible to keep as much profit as possible. Maybe 1 or 2 top teams in each age bracket get better coaching but the other 10 or so get nothing.
Had a child go through GPS in MA. Sharing my observations on biz model. You are absolutely right at the lower levels. It's a volume biz, caters to parents/kids that just want to stay with their friends in the car pool. Coaches can be great or horrible for their local Select and Elite teams.

The hook for parents is opportunity for upward mobility. The GPS Top Teams (NPL) are actually pretty good through u15 and so is the coaching. Parents like to begin with local convenience and playing with friends, and are glad to know the pathway to NPL is there if MIA shows she needs it.

Frankly it was a good experience and coaching at NPL level was great. When we were in it for fun at u11, it worked, middle school was very competitive, and finally we left in HS to chase college dreams through ECNL.

For those that want to say NPL is a joke.. Ok.
When we started it wasn't to us. DA wasn't here and Pre-ECNL teams were beaten by GPS (and SSS in MA) plenty at u13. Not sure how GPS growth would play out in CT landscape. Seems like Oakwood and CFC are similar to Stars/NEFC and the soft spot for GPS just below that.

GPS treated all families very well, communication was great, and financial concessions for families that needed it were given.

It's even lower than that for men because there are over 100 fewer D1 programs to begin with

              Men's D1 204, % foreign 16%; Women's 333, % foreign 6.0%
              Mens' D2 213, % foreign 20.7; Women's 265, % foreign 5.1%
              Men's D3 416, % foreign 2.8%; Women's 431, % foreign .4%

As discussed the math isn't there first of all (fewer programs, more international players taking the bulk of the scholarships, usually leaving coaches with just a few to divvy up across 15-20 players). Then there's the lists. Now better MLS clubs will get more good D1 placements than the Revs. But plenty of DA kids end up in D3, especially non MLS.

Definitely proof for a sample size of 1 .... you should feel pretty good about your chances for jumping off a cliff ... which i hope you try.

why is everyone so angry about kids playing in DA and only going to D3 schools? Why does it matter to 99.9% of the people on this site? Shouldn't it only matter for the kid and the kid's parents, in that order? I'd be happy for any kid to be playing in college, D1-D3, and studying for a career. Who cares? Bravo to all the kids that play high level soccer and play in college while studying for their career goals! Thanks you kids for acting like adults when your parents are acting like little kids in the neighborhood park playing pick up soccer.

Because, for some people, spending money to play and learn the game to have it only end up without a scholarship is not a good ROI. Spending time having fun, testing yourself in a good competition, learning to overcome obstacles, have no dollar value so they cannot comprehend it.

The same people will spend money on ski lessons, math tutors, swim lessons, horseback riding, gymnastics classes, piano lessons without issue. But, when you do it for soccer they shlt themselves at the thought.
