    GDA San Diego National Playoffs

78 Teams (3 Age Groups) will compete in the GDA playoffs. Most of the U17 and U15 national Team players will compete with there clubs as well. Nice test for the girls and families participating. There 2 teams from Florida going to the playoffs. Congrats to IMG, United Soccer Alliance. Hopefully the teams will do better next year.

U19s only have 16 teams qualify for playoffs and there is no showcase. For U17 and U15, 32 teams qualify for playoffs and the rest play in the showcase. U14 only have a showcase (no playoffs). Weston’s U15s qualified for a wildcard playoff spot but they are playing in the showcase. Anyone know why?

Yep kinda like the North American and Showcase in the ECNL, but at least it is a possible chance for them to be seen, if they are still trying to get recruited and the college coach is attending they are talking with....

A few more 19s qualify but chose not to go, including NYCFC one of the few MLS clubs involved in GDA and #2 in the NE for the 19s. Obviously for that age there's no need for a showcase. But some players still opt out of the playoffs as well - it's a great deal of money, their summers are short, they don't want to get injured. Clubs can fill in gaps bringing up younger players

In the US, soccer is still considered a girls sport. The women's team wins and the men don't. MLS is rec soccer to the rest of the world. Women's professional soccer is growing popularity because of the US women's success. Title IX makes girls soccer the fastest growing youth sports.

Good luck to your little Messi.

While you are correct in stating that girls soccer is more popular than boys soccer in the States, it is incorrect that it is the fastest growing sport. Soccer participation has actually decreased a bit the past few years. Some if this decrease is due to the realization that collegiate soccer is not as glorious as it has been made out to be. It's not considered the "golden ticket" any longer.

Many youth sports have flatlined - baseball (boring) football (concussions). Video games don't help. Increasing costs is a factor for many families. So is the professionalization of youth sports. It's no longer acceptable to just be playing a sport just for fun. You're supposed to be serious about it and play ten months a year and train over the summer. Being a multi sport athlete is frowned up and made nearly impossible to do.

Fast Growing Soccer - Perhaps one of the fastest growing sports in America among the youth is soccer. Soccer is the last sport to cross both gender groups top five for youth. It is an easy sport to begin learning and to play, which makes it exciting for youngsters almost immediately. Although it is simple at first, strategy and advanced skills develop over time making the game more competitive as they grow older.
