There is no way for her to “vet” something like this. It reads like a hit job. Not like the student paper is the NY Times. If there was any truth to it, they would have come forward long before now.

IKR? Shows how difficult it can be trying to vet them. Unless they have an arrest record these things can easily avoid radar detection. Prior employers are loathe to say anything other than dates of employment and salary for fear of being sued if they say more. The accusations are very old and the soccer world is small. You'd think something would have surfaced much earlier than this.

In this day and age no university is going to take any chances when there's allegations like this hanging about, even more so someone who hasn't been a long term employee. They cut bait instantly even though it may not be true. It definitely won't help the program's reputation.

They have text messages from him and MULTIPLE witnesses corroborating the info.

The next one will obviously be a straight woman.

Text messages from him wondering why this group of people were saying these things about him after a decade? Might have been a bit more credible 10 years ago. Let’s see what the response is. If true, other players would know. Could just be a spiteful group of people. Without knowing who exactly, it is difficult to see other potential motives.

There’s only one of those in the country and she already has a job so I guess Yale is outta luck.

Still strange that this didn't surface earlier given how old the story is. I know Yale was scrambling to fill the spot after last year's Varsity Blues newsbomb. Assuming they did their utmost to vet him, this stuff often times doesn't come up. Yet you'd think the story would have come up once he was named head coach. The VB scandal really shone a spotlight on the program. I find it hard to believe that UNH didn't know anything about this. Back then many schools would bury stories like this but fortunately no longer do. They don't come across well in the story at all.

Did you even read the article? Doesn’t seem like it. Try actually reading past the first paragraph if you can.

Nice victim blaming. Law enforcement estimates that as many as 90% of assaults are never reported. If you read the article you would have seen she told multiple people what happened at the time. It was her choice at the time not to say anything, as many trauma victims do. Even in this day and age with more awareness, women often times are assumed to be lying. They lay themselves bare for all kinds of awful things to be said about them. Justice is rarely served. Yes sometimes men are falsely accused, but if society and law enforcement continues to take that posture then women will continue to be afraid to come forward.

He married a former player for god sakes! Everyone knows that, and they are happily married. This seems like a hit job.

Consensual. He was 24. Accuser were all adults.

Good god I hope you don't have daughters. Or sons for that matter.

This is outrageous and disgusting. There is a huge power dynamic between a coach and his female players that does not allow for a normal relationship and completely violates the trust between the coach, player, her parents and school that should be present and is expected.

It is time for EVERY school (high school or college) and EVERY private club soccer association to do further and much more extensive background checks on their coaches. These young girls must be protected and not be surrounded by coaches that they trust that will prey on them.

And it is time for players and parents to come forward with information on these predators before it goes any furthe and any more damage is done to other girls lives. They need to talk to their guidance counselors, school ADs or Club Directors. Immediately.
