The08’s at Washington Timbers are spread pretty equal between the top two teams. From U9-U11 they practice in large pools of 22-26 players with the very top players playing up a year or two.
I know of three 08’s that have played with the 06 DA team in games a regularly practice with them. I wouldn’t sweat where the 08’s are right now.

There’s no doubt that Vantucky is the strongest club overal from 8-14 years old. If you look at the club overall going three teams deep at every age group they are the strongest. They have quality coaching, great facilities and a player group that doesn’t come here to Oregon anymore. Where they lose a little steam is at the High School age groups because of the Thorns and Timbers DA. Not a big deal if that is what their model is and they are communicating that to their members.

WashT is a fine club, and having a large catchment area with little competition, they are very deep, as you note. Other than possibly PCU, which has had a bit of a rec mentality of late (nothing wrong with rec, of course, but PCU is become increasingly irrelevant at younger ages in premier soccer; they still are strong in high school, and talented players seems to be avoiding them for other clubs--though the lack of really strong clubs within the city of Portland itself is a bit of a puzzle), they're the largest club around.

OTOH, Washington Timbers A teams aren't clearly superior to the A teams of other clubs. Some of them are, some of them aren't. WashT sent three excellent players to the Timbers Academy this season (05 TM, 06 SJ, and 07 NS, who is the only kid on the 06 TA playing up), but FC and Westside each have four 05s playing for TA, and Westside has even more if you count the players that Jo looted a few years back.

That said, I commend the club for generally playing the right way. The club has a strong commitment to playing out of the back, doesn't stuff it's lineup with track stars and beefcake and try to win bootball matches, and has an excellent coaching staff.

Agreed. I’ve seen them play a few times and they are pretty skilled. I think it really has to do with the fact they are the only team nearby and aren’t fighting for players like westside and FC PDX and some of the other non da club teams like adf

            Crossfire 7 pts (2 GD)
United PDX 7 pts (-1 GD)

Westside 3 pts (-1 GD after only 4 games)
Capitol FC 3 pts (-15 GD after only 4 games)

Westside and Capitol did not play today? Coaching issues at Capitol?
            Westside 5
            Capitol 2

Standings going into this weekend (assuming xfire/Westside was a tie):

                        Washington Timbers FC Academy 15
                        United PDX Soccer Club 10
                        Crossfire Oregon 8
                        Westside Timbers Soccer Club 7
                        FC Portland Academy 6
                        Capital FC Timbers 3

xfire 3-1, but it much closer then the score might indicate.

Only missing score is xfire v. capital.
