The best youth players are in European academies and would never give that up to go to a private school in America with comparatively inferior coaches, competition and less skilled teammates.
you assume that European academies are able to scout and find the best players - that's not necessarily true. Look what happened to Ben Lederman, and many others... Also, being one of the best does not necessarily go hand in hand with wanting to go pro. To some, a great education is more important.

Bench warmer at Man U academy, smart Mom saw he would be on the trash heap in a year.

He plays in the English Premier league and is on English national U21 team. If they didn't see his potential then, it proves the OP's point even more.

Many of the ISL kids are RTD from poor as dirt countries. Of course they'll seize an opportunity to get a great US education, probably a scholarship to a top US university. That has more life assurances than trying to go pro, although some have gone pro after a year or two in college.

Ben and his club got into trouble with FIFA. He's finally old enough to play and is doing well enough.

European clubs don't scout in the USA, except for goal keepers, because they know there is nothing here to scout.

Ben plays for the genk b team. European academies do scout in the US. There are several US players in European academies. A huge barrier is that many US players don't have European Union passports. The lucky ones with dual citizenship go to trials regularly in Europe and many are playing there now

Yes the European scouts have not seen your son. Their loss! :)

The number of boys in the world that would give up a good pro soccer career for anything else you could probably count on one hand.

wrong. I know of at least three from MA and four in NY who turned down pro and semipro offers for college.

I think the poster meant international players. US players are more likely to do what you describe. With the cost of college here, the uncertainty of a pro career, low MLS pay etc it's no wonder some don't want to walk away from what is a most likely a free education (for players of that caliber).

Please stop talking about professional soccer. This is a Revs Academy thread so there's reason to even consider a professional career for these kids. The Revs Academy will cut more U15 players next June than they'll sign homegrowns by 2030.

1 out of 30 will be a professional. Possibly more.

Dad giving them 20 bucks for a goal doesn't count.
