In Fairfield, why is Ludlowe so bad and Warde seems pretty consistently good year to year?

They're both consistently mediocre overall - may have a good year here or there but that's it. The talent is split between the two schools.

Warde went to state finals once (2014) and then you have to go back to 2003. Any supremacy is marginal at best over Ludlowe. Talent split + coaching are the drivers

Talent split? FFLD has somewhere around 55K-60K residents, so each high school's population should be around 25k, that is about the size of Ridgefield, and they do OK!

Ludlowe hasn't had any standout players for several years, while Warde has had more than a few. For whatever reason, Warde gets it done.

Warde also takes in some Bridgeport kids. I remember one who was pretty good player for Warde and is currently playing in college. She was on the team that made a state final.

That 2014 was a fluke year, proven by the fact that they basically had the same team back the next year, but they sucked real bad.

With Ludlowe, you know what you get every year. Warde...they may put you on the tilted grass field with potholes and long grass or crappy old turf. Whatever is more advantageous to them. Their coach is a dbag. He makes allows them to play a very physical style (others may call it lunch pail, I call it dirty)

Sounds like Warde knocked over his little Mia. If FFLD had one high school, they would be dominant.

In the early years there was Roger Ludlow and Andrew Ward High school! Then they merged for a while, now they have ffld Ludlow and ffld Ward? How pompous can you get? Never see Westport Staples do you? or Redding Joel Barlow?

Greenwich has about the same population with one high school, but they don't dominate.

Talent split is a false rationale for the sustained mediocrity of the Fairfield schools. The best player by a long shot at either school (Warde) was the quinnipiac player and she was an out of district player. Last year, without her but with two other all-state honorees they underperformed AGAIN! This year they are down to just one and it will end as the prior two years have...Early and with lots of excuses.

Ludlowe bases their whole season on the Fairfield rivalry - so they always have a punchers chance at glory.

The "poorest" area of town feeds to...Ludlowe. Both schools take about 8 -10 students from Bridgeport - remember one who played soccer. Standout kid and player. Ludlowe girls have been very difficult (remember last years video) and coach was a nightmare and only played older girls vs the most talented. Warde always played to win. Prep schools also pull a lot of talent out of town. Lots of great players across both of the schools. High school soccer is great because it's the entire team that makes the tournament not one or two standout players. You people are always looking for something to make you feel like you can put others down.

As I recall there was some melodrama @ Warde a year or two ago. If you have some of that nonsense going on it can screw up the whole year no matter what talent you ahve
