The international trips should be moved to the summer. College coaches have time to travel and make money on the side. Players would not miss a week and a half of school.

The international trips are great for the experience but the Boca event is s joke. It takes place at pretty much the same time as the Disney event so most colleges don’t attend. The ones that do leave early and go to Disney. Also the event itself is a waste. They train for maybe an hour daily and just sit in a hotel room all day doing nothing. Get to play 3 games and coaches are only there for the first. Day or two. Total number of coaches was very low as well- maybe 50 and unless your kid wants to go to a school up north the numbers are even lower.

My daughter left early and went to Disney- she saw some of the same coaches and got to talk to about 10 others were she is interested in attending. The Boca event used to be good but has really gone downhill over the past 2 years.

Ideally, the international trips would be in the Summer but don't let that stop you. Our daughter went on the 10-day trip to Germany and it was a life-changing experience. She's in the very rigourous International Baccalaureate at her High School and it was very hard to miss 10 days of school. But she wrote up a summary of the soccer/cultural aspects of the trip from her journal pages and submitted it for credit. The teacher suggested she submit it as-is to a scholarship program. She has submitted slightly different versions of it to a few sholarship competitions and so far has been awarded $7,500 in college scholarships that won't count against her athletic scholarship award.

the birth of DA has killed ODP.. This was very evident in the quality of Florida kids at the Alabama camp.. Kids that never made it past tryouts but ended up in Alabama.. they had to scrape up players because attendance very low..This will be our last year with ODP.. Tired of padding Mike S POCKET

Someone who actually speaks the truth. The level of talent across all states has gone way down. All the top girls from GA are gone- a lot from TN and AL are gone as well as NC. The talent just isn’t there anymore.

Private schools are much more lenient about missing school. Try that at most private schools or with college professors of dual enrollment classes, and they will not allow that many days missed.

DA took a chunk of girls out of ODP because DA players are not allowed to participate in ODP. That said there are still high quality players in the south region pool. The ODP camp is a quality and fun experience for the players. The Boca event needs to adapt to the times. Hold it in conjunction with Disney with the region teams playing other region teams in a separate bracket or inviting an international team. The ODP event could be held closer to Disney or Auburndale and for a shorter length of time the day after Thanksgiving-Monday to aid coaches in travel and efficiency of time. ODP needs to adapt or it will fail.

There is “some talent” left on the girls side but it is definitely much lower than what it used to be. When you played the GA first team it was a who's Who of top talent. Now their squad is made up of girls that could not make their b team. The talent in FL is now sub par, NC teams are terrible and Alabama is back to aweful when they were really good for a few years. The best girls arent doing it now.

She does attend a public school. At most schools, if your kid is in "good standing" they'll accomodate an extended absense for the right reason (ODP supplies a formal letter addressed to the school). If your kid is academically on the bubble, I wouldn't even ask.

What do students taking IB, AP and dual enrollment classes miss in 8 days away? A bubble student could drop a grade to a B and not get into Emory. The GPA or experience for essay material hmmm??

People who use "hmmmm?" in to help make a point are typically crazy to begin with.

“Not Best” might beat out the DA elitest players’ kids.

Stop being a punk. ECNL players are giving up on ODP too. ODP has its merits but its does not carry the same prestige as years past. My kid was received an invite to regionals after she already quit for a year. That should tell you well it is run now.
