It is a big help for sure, but is not fully funded.Sort of over the top on "Being talented enough to play of the Thorns Academy is a dream..."Similar to ECNL, the DA is a great platform to get to the next level which in 99.9% of the cases is college soccer.
Actually in our neck of the woods the NWSL Thorns are funding it to the tune of 1/2 million dollars annually, US Soccer helps with those that have financial hardship. Thorns Academy only take 18 or so players across 2 birth years, so it's very difficult to be selected from a tryout of hundreds, as you can imagine. You mention 'Ecnl' isn't that a US Club sponsored league for non-DA clubs to register for? On that front both the USYS and US Club offer a great menu of leagues for kids to play at the local, state & regional level, USYS even has National Championships which is incredible event each year.

With nearly 50K girls playing college soccer each year at some level it's great US Club & USYS have leagues to provide colleges with aspiring players. That's a tall order to fill.

No quality male or female player is asking to play HS instead of playing in the DA. Average players can still play HS as they would never make a DA club/squad. The model for the boys & girls DA is the same, not different.

DA clubs are not worried about the type of player that puts a priority on HS Soccer over DA.

      Thanks for the laugh.

If they could bring down the cost and let girls play high school that might help.
I think this is a big reason they struggle to get girls to come out. Girls want to play high school soccer. Criticize it all you want but kids love having hundreds of fans and peers cheering them on. Representing their school is a big point of pride for elite players all the way to the highest levels.

Other states are wising up and letting girls do both. Sad that Oregon is still is in the dark ages trying to shame kids that want to have fun.

          I agree 100% with this.

At my dd school they play in the early afternoon weekdays and no students just some family shows up. Mind you she plays JV. Even if she played in college she would never have hundreds of fans, it's girls soccer.

Oregon has such a small handful of quality DA level girls that this 'issue' or 'notion' of not playing HS is way overstated. The girls playing in HS should be there and not at National DA level, all is good.

Thisnis an outright lie and proven false across the country. It is also why USYS was loose on their no hs soccer rule.

The decision to not allow girls to play HS soccer if they are members of the GDA is US Soccer not the states association.

Coaches who realize this coach girls soccer as it is easy to brag about all the kids that go play college soccer. Then they get into a league or tourney and convince parents it is the way to college. And we all fall for it and those coaches make a nice living.

Many states are allowing kids to do both high school and play in the da league at the same time. Why does Oregon not allow this. They did last year, didn't they.

That is why there are better HS teams than our local GDA teams.

They did do it for several years. I think they still allow waivers but with thin rosters they can't do this and still field a team.

Exposure? If you can actually play well at a D1 level, you need only step on a field anywhere on the planet and play, especially with title ix funding, then throw in modern technology coupled with incredible the information capabilities, the college coach that wants to stay on payroll will find you just a click on a website.

                              Development? That's funny.

If you want to improve your odds of being found, it's simple improve at the game to a point that, it's impossible not to miss you.
