BS on the other hand was a once seriously proud club that is a shell of its former self
Somebody is awfully sensitive. Once YUs U18s graduate (and there's a few U17s) they've got nothing to speak of. They're in a league that is a shell of its former competitive self that isn't a top recruiting platform for college any longer. They can continue to put players into decent D3 schools, where their players find success, but they are not longer a top club for the state's better players.

As for joining forces with BS that has been rumored for years. They even supposedly had meetings, but that was when both clubs were stronger. BS is weak now as well and if MLS clubs pull out of BDA it will only get worse. Combining the two clubs makes sense on paper. But as a poster said, the two generals at both clubs are like oil and water. However, sometimes necessities forge new relationships

Last thing the state needs is another ECNL club. I think OW had an opportunity to buy S+ but passed (this was well before GDA was even a rumor and NPL was a better league). That's when FSA snatched it up and has destroyed what little equity there was.

not sensitive at all- its just an every year thing on this site
just because you keep saying it doesn't make it Gospel

if what you have are D3 players that's where you put them- YU is a small club always has been- CFC has always been bigger and United has always had the lions share of top talent
but they don't have all the talent

YU is a club whose best days are well behind them. They had a good run but it’s over now. However, they could make some moves. The only thing they really have are the St Joes facilities in Trumbull. Beachside sounds like a good move. However, they would have to completely rebuild girls program. A better move would be to leverage facility and merge with a smaller club. Soccerviza could be a likely partner. Rush would be a good fit since it sounds like they may be pushed out of Wilton. I don’t think that will happen because of big egos. My guess is YU just quietly goes out, not with a bang, but a whimper.

I don't want to debate the politics of achieving All American status or a players impact at the D1 level (as there are several threads, with hundreds of responses on TS already) but St Joes and YU seem to have a very productive relationship. St Joes is strong every year in HS, and many of the same girls play for YU. This relationship has produced All Americans and D1 recruits...….they must be doing something right IMHO.

St Joes and YU are not suited for every player, as some are better served at OW or CFC, or any other club for that matter. Certain coaches get more out of certain players....just need to find the best player/coach relationship and run with it.

Never happen. ECNL Mafia is afraid of more competition in their backyard. They'd rather sell it that you have to drive 4 hours to find competition.

And, you svckers buy into it.

ow is in Portland- nobody is choosing between the 2 clubs
its simply too far to travel from FFld county or from above middletown

StJ strength doesn't come from YU. There were more CFCU players on StJ than YU. And outside of the stud Junior, the CFC players are far better.

The amount of travel is irrelevant. The bottom line is that the NPL league YU plays in is nothing compared to the NPL/ECNL2 league that CFC plays in. The fact that they play PDA already makes it more competitive without even considering the other teams in the league.
