If a coach has a shopping list at every showcase, how many of those on the prospect list after every tournament get recruited or at least an email e pressing interest in the recruit?

Chances are everyone who reached out will get a generic email inviting them to an ID event. Coaches use the events to help pad their budgets so the more the merrier. Until June after your sophomore legally that's all they can communicate directly with you. You won't know genuine interest until that date or 1) If a college coach reaches out to your club coach or 2) if your club coach makes a call and gets positive feedback.

The coach has a shopping list made up mostly of kids who contacted him before the showcase and/or have been in conversation before the event. As a sophomore my son would sometimes get feedback from a d3 coach during the tournament "you looked great out there today!"

If you've targeted the schools right, they will be interested after the showcase.

How can you tell if a HS sophomore's interest in your program will stand the test of two more years of HS? Some parents of early "commits" I know say they are not sure it is the right fit. Obviously....the kids are only 15 or 16 after sophomore year and even that is young to be mature enough to make a decision about college.

College Coaches, as a general rule, live their lives in two year increments. But even that’s difficult because you never really know how a kid is going to react/respond until they get in the program. Some just don’t work out, some surprise you.

In regard to recruiting, there’s waaay too many (and I really hate this word) “Pathways” for them to focus on just one series/cup/league/showcase.

As a general rule the recruit should show interest in the school first and should NEVER focus on just the soccer part. Communication with the coach allows him or her to get a look at them if they can.

As a general rule they have an idea who they’re looking at during the event and that is based on prior communication, needs, etc....

So they do not usually have a shopping list. They know who they are looking and why...but they are open minded while watching those kids to finding previously unknown talent.

Oh, and they do go to high school games

My Sons inbox is loaded with out of state schools with 50,000 a year tuition. Nothing like graduating 200 grand in the hole. Good thing he has been aggressive in state and Hoping to be signing in next month. The process sucks for soccer. It was so much easier for Football. Glad it is almost over...............

You sound ridiculous when you say “they” referring to college coaches, especially as it relates to the HS part.

It all depends on what types of schools and programs you are talking about. Yes you might see some coaches at some high school games but they will be from small local colleges or small d3 programs that need to recruit players just to fill rosters. These are the same coaches watching the u19 girls on the last day of a showcase when everyone else is gone, hoping to pick up that last non-committed girl.

I’m not judging in any way, but you’re not going to see any larger program coaches recruiting based on a HS game. Coaches aren’t just looking at what a player can do, but also who she can do it against. Running through 6 players and scoring a goal in HS doesn’t say anything about a player other than she knows how to run around cones.

More likely of success than under the old system where kids were committing as freshmen, sometimes even in 8th grade. The longer the gap, the greater the risk. All offers are verbal and can be changed by either side if they want to. No one is truly "committed " until they sign the NLI in November of your senior year. Coaches don't often rescind but they can and sometimes do. Coaches can leave too. The student athlete may have changed their mind about the school or soccer program. It's always a risk but generally works out. Also remember that students change their minds about their college choices all the time, often enough after they're already enrolled.

My kid did not get accepted into FSU. Is there a chance she get in late by getting a late offer onto the soccer team?

Is she hot with a smoking body. If not, no chance move on. If yes, along time with the dean should do the trick.

Wait until the UF decision day on February 28. Many who do not get into FSU get into UF.

That would be surprising if even say shocking.
