And do you think it any different in the European or South American academies?

Without a regional structure, the size of our country would make a smaller DA simply too costly to run. It would be limited only to those MLS clubs that have the monies to make such an investment in the travel element of a smaller DA. There might be a very few independents or academies tied to USL franchises, but logistics in a smaller DA presents a formidable cost hurdle.

Yes, there are girls' academies in Europe and South America....sheesh. Use that search engine from time to time.

So, while those kids are playing h.s., other kids are getting time in GDA.

When the waiver kids come back, those kids who had been playing get bumped to the bench.

Nobody should complain. That's just how life works.
              This is not accurate. Specifically:
Only Loomis kids got waivers.. Don't expect to be granted one if you're in public school.
Kids played up to fill rosters, so they got extra quality pt while hs was in season
              Nobody got benched.
Play volleyball if you want a varsity letter.

Same logic holds, girls or boys.

Regional structure critical to success of DA program.

Even tougher for the women with less money and franchises in the NWSL, but doesn't change the reality of what must be for DA to work.

Of course, there could be a whole new way of viewing what these DAs should be like and how the system should be ran......but......

Of course kids ended up benched. It's OW's MO. Ever seen them at a showcase? Bench never plays meaningful minutes. Waivers go to the perceived "good" kids. Sham club.

Window is open after HS and open again before Spring season begins in all I believe thrice per year.

Waivered kids have to get their minimum starts in just like everyone else. It doesn't matter how short or long they've played for the club. Combine that with limited sub rules and only 18 per game day roster and some fall players will see very little PT in the spring

Or they could have worked with ECNL to make (much needed) improvements and use ECNL as the base for an uber group of pro/nt level players, maybe with a residency element. Let the majority remain as is, working towards the college goal, and focus on the nation's truly elite players. But USSF wanted to call all the shots so now we have the mess we've got now.

Im well aware the term academy is used. most are not parent funded and are actually attached to clubs who benefit from them and therefore fund them AND (key part) select players. To compare them to what we have is pointless and an internet searchis not going to tell you much The top academy is probably Clarefontaine in France. In the UK, the pro clubs train, but club funded.

No way kids jump in halfway thru in either of those. you are in or out.
