    GDA Waiver

Anyone have the latest on the GDA waiver? Is it expected to be extended to other birth years or is it only grandfathered for the years listed below?

"The Girls’ Development Academy program was designed by Academy and U.S. Soccer technical staff, and offers the best development model for long-term, elite female player development. The Academy firmly believes that the best situation for the development of a Girls player is to be in their everyday Academy club environment. However, clubs and players are able to make individual decisions for what is best for girls who have already started their high school careers in 2016 or earlier. Players born in 1999, 2000, 2001, 2002 can – with club approval – leave the Academy mid-season to play high school soccer, but must fully leave the Academy environment during the high school season. Players cannot play in both the Academy and high school simultaneously. This policy will be reviewed in future seasons."

“The club can roster them. They can spend those two months out of the Development Academy, and then come back later in the season. The Girls Development Academy will be a 10-month season,” said the former U.S. Women’s National Team head coach. “We’re saying girls have to make choices. There’s the Girls Development Academy. There’s high school soccer, ECNL, other leagues – girls cannot do it all.”

Short term work around. 2002s will be Juniors in the fall. Everyone else must make a choice

Sorry - are you saying high school kids born in 2003, for example, will be able to request a waiver (despite their birth year not being mentioned in the rule)?

it was for any girls who were already playing high school soccer when GDA started. 2003s were freshman this year (and some 8th graders) so they weren't on a high school team prior to GDA starting. In all cases a club still has to approve it, then in 2021 USSF has to approve it also

Dikheads — if the kid is good you don’t need a waiver. DA/GDA loophole is not to add the player to the roster in the fall so he or she play HS. No waiver needed , add the player after HS season.

uh thanks for calling me a dikhead. That's awesome. You must be an OW parent. They are known to do that. Shameful club.

That works here in the NE where HS is in the fall. Beachside added several HS players this winter. It's tougher to do when soccer is winter or spring as I believe the add on period has a end-date. Regardless studs will get waivers, non studs will not.

Waivers are given by the clubs not us soccer.

Call the club you’re interested in and ask.

Our Club does not do it. You commit to GDA and its no HS for you. Im indifferent , but I can see why some families dont like kids joining mid year. Its a little tough on those who made the full year commitment.

You learn a lot about the culture of your Club when things like this happen.

Must be in a large NYC club where they can replace kids easily and not miss a beat.

In 2021 it will require USSF sign off also. Some BDA clubs don't give any because they don't have to. But also it makes it harder to manage whem several players are missing and definitely causes tension among families. Clubs with limited player pools will have to find ways to accommodate or add on when allowed aka BS and OW.
