It's humorous to read the FC partisans in here acting all indignant (and pretending to be random passers-by) that someone would do a (club name) = (silly emoji) thread about their precious little club, while everyone knows the worst trolls in this forum are the FC mommies, and possibly a coach or two.

OP is onto something, though. Club lacks confidence in its ability to grow its own talent, so is contantly recruiting. How will a 5th place GU12 team compete in ECNL next year? They're hoping to sucker girls from the clubs in front of them in the standings to come on over, and many of the current girls on the A team will find themselves on the B team. Seventh grade isn't too early to start getting some of that college exposure and frequent flyer miles.

      It's their coaching staff...

I repeat it's their lacking coaching staff.

Coaches who have things that look good on paper but completely behind and or lazy.

      Or

Coaches who have no idea what they are doing.

Now think of another bitchy thing to say and actually don’t post it.

FC is not perfect, but they have backbone.

Any grown-up with backbone involved in Oregon youth soccer should be objecting to the Timbers' involvement in OYSA/etc.
Exactly! The very last statement from the OP was pretty sad.
Oregon soccer is poor. It's ran by a poor organization. Clubs are ran by poor DOC's. And boards do not have the knowledge to understand soccer development.

Sad and true. Look at the current 04 ECNL Team and only one player on it that was a homegrown FC Navy player. All the other recruited or snatched up in an open tryout. The ECNL patch is holding the life raft together.

              FC Coaching Issues

From our experience at FC, the girls coaching staff is very inconsistently dispersed and suffers significantly from poor oversight. Just as coaches should be developing all players, Directors of Coaching, Age group coordinators, etc. should be developing coaches and this has not been occurring, or is done ineffectively.

Practices are rarely done with any intensity and feedback is nearly non-existent. Issues that have plagued the teams are not practiced to allow for greater awareness at the player level and adjustments (either in players or tactics) do not happen.

The kids have developed good relationships, but I would not be surprised to see more players leave than come in. The talk about recruiting being FC's lifeline will bite them in reverse as most of the ODP/RTC recruiting we've heard is outbound not inbound.

Directors who are only there to get paid and put out fires while not advancing the program is simply 30% of their job.

Old coaches who like to say US national staff or blah this or blah that but you find out that they don't even put in near the time.

Combine those two and you find out pretty quickly that it reflects the mediocre or recycled teams that are there.

It's also interesting that those old coaches have resorted to recruitment to hide that they don't develop as well anymore.

They are behind but Suzy q parents won't know the difference

Ecnl will most likely fold once DA relocates to that part of town.

GDA isn't relocating anywhere except maybe the graveyard. The concept is as good as dead. Was never a good idea and now it's been proved to be even worse than anyone ever thought possible. Poster child for how bad it is: Thornz Asylum.

As always the question is "Why did all those kids feel the need to leave their Timbers clubs and move to FCP?" But we all know that answer right? Timbers clubs are absolutely horrible at everything they do, and even worse than that when it comes to girls soccer.

A few years ago, when ECNL was mainly elite clubs, joining that company was a tempting offer.

But these girls and their families had the wool pulled over their eyes; as the bottom divisions of ECNL (where both FC and CU are found) aren't really that much better than OYSA premier. Certainly not enough to benefit getting on airplanes for league matches.

Putting the money in a 529 is a better way of paying for college than spending it on expensive travel, on the off chance that little Bethany might be seen in a showcase somewhere. Scouts and recruiting services have lots of contacts among club and HS coaches, and are generally able to figure out where the talented players are, no matter where they play.

Not getting anyone except toxic or lower level players now.

Everyone needs to take the left overs

Yeah, that's really too bad for the Timbers clubs but when you're scraping bottom what can you expect.

Interesting that out of all the ECNL coaches announced for FCP, not a single female coach. Also the DOC just left.

DoC had nothing to do with ECNL. And the coaches they have for ECNL are top notch. Can't do better than Depinna and Gant for the age groups they have. Lucky girls.
