2 possible reasons:

1) Clubs did not think NHSL was suitable for them any more, and was not changing to accommodate their needs

2) Seacoast wanted more control and revenue

I'm sure it's a combination of both, and a matter of opinion on which reason carried more weight.

I noticed on their schedule they have combined Girls U13/14/15 leagues for Spring, and in their board minutes they have been discussing playing games with other leagues to increase the competition level.

Looks like the league is significantly down in the number of teams competing this spring from the fall season. Is that mostly due to kids playing other sports, so the clubs have fewer teams, or did clubs move back to NHSL?

I don't think any teams have switched back. NNESL has 84 teams from 16 clubs for Spring. The clubs are:

Different age groups, and/or abilities? A "big" club may be 2-3 teams deep in a gender/bracket.

From a quick scan it looks like Revolution United didn't like the combined U13/14 Boys division in NNESL so registered their U13 team for the NHSL U13 division.

Well, that explains why #s are down slightly in the NHSL. Didn't even know the NNESL existed!
