While I might agree, I recognize that there is so much overlap. The one thing that is usually known by the older ages (> 12) is the diagnosis if one exists. If one is known then the parents are easier to deal with as they understand the limitations that exist both for their kid and for the coach when having to deal with a less than cooperative boy.
At the risk of distinguishing tiered commitment (by player and by coach to player), the club level of soccer has no time or patience to devote excess time to one player for behavioral reasons. The rest of the parents are paying to darn much to have this happen. The town level is more tolerable, however, one has to distinguish between the top travel team and the lower levels.
Before dealing with the kid, you have to deal and inform the parent so that no one is surprised if and when the kid is told to sit, leave, or give up their position on the team. The parents have to be involved at the onset.
