With the Thorns being 99/00 Birth Years it aged a lot of now Senior '98/99's out of the team from last go round. The new coach for this group only has selected two '99 seniors on the roster, the rest are '99/'00 juniors and '00/01 sophomores. The '99 seniors only play in OYSA games (if selected). They aren't eligible to play FWRL nor the recent LA Showcase as they are too old.

Sounds like a great deal, said no one ever.

How many bridges do you have to burn before this sounds like a good idea for your kid?

College is not the answer for everyone. Lots of good trade jobs out there that don't require $120,000 in student loan debt.

Not a good deal for the '99 seniors but to be fair good for the juniors and sophomores as they are the recruitable 2018 and 2019 classes the college coaches are focused on currently. If they were playing in the oldest age brackets in FWRL and Showcases then that would be pointless for the vast majority of their roster as coaches aren't watching the 2017's any more (in the main).

So why would any 99 senior take this terrible deal?

GDA isn't about college recruiting. All those girls are on the fast track to the USWNT. Just ask them.

This is spot on. Quit judging based on your college criteria.

Oregon GDA alone will fill at least half of all national team spots.

Thorns couldn't put even one player on the National Rec team.

College is for dumb kids. Smart kids get multimillions from their daddy & then build towers and get richer by not paying the losers that build the towers for you. Timbers are smart to build their academies & wallets with your money. Smart way to get richer. If you don't like it, play ecnl.

And I'm sure you would know since you bring the snack bags when your DD is the equipment manager of the day for the National Rec Team.

I am sure the 2 girls from their older team committed to Boise State and Oregon might have an outside shot...

I agree. Get a trade job. Plumber or electrician or drywaller. You wil be in constant demand and will be working while kids are partying in frat houses. Pack away savings. You'll have $30,000 in savings for down on a house while other kids are tens of thousands in the hole.
