A large percentage of college players are foreign. The younger talented US players were in DA and or USYNT so they are well known

If you argue that there are Hispanic or African American players not in college or DA I might buy the unknown player but talented US college players are a well known pool of players
“A large percentage of college players are foreign.”

Would it surprise you to know that only 16% of D1 male players are foreign?

I think you missed the point. These foreign players come here and take the limited scholarships.

Yes all it takes is 4-6 foreign players (what many programs have, some have none) getting a full ride or close to it to eat up most of the allotted 9.9 scholarships (and that's if a program is fully funded, not all are). If five are gone that leaves 4.9 to divvy up across 20+ players. Give your lead GK another ride and you're down to 3.9. Also, there are 100 fewer men's D1 programs than women's. Foreign players are increasing on the women's side but aren't nearly as many, plus women's teams have 14 scholarships.

And no one more surprised than them to be there.
