Some clubs didn't have lots of options given this was starting and they weren't already in ECNL - what's a club to do? Also, like the league, some clubs clearly misread what their customers wanted. But that didn't become clearer until tryouts - too late to pull out? Then the quality of the competition didn't become clear until games started - some bailed last spring but most said they needed to give it more time.

I learned early on, the hard way, that every year you need to do a serious evaluation of each your player's situations well before tryout season. It's never a bad idea to look around and see what else is out there. Get in front of clubs before mass tryouts in case you need to bail. You may just find that all is well, or you might find a better situation without really knowing you wanted it. There's no telling if your team might blow up, club blows up, possibly the league blows up. The situation has only gotten worse with what has now become huge landscape changes every year.
