    Sad and true.

At UF, over fifty percent of the students getting their graduate degrees are international students. UF is not a teaching university and only cares about research money. Football isn't as big as it once was at UF and the students might prefer going to watch soccer in the future.

        Lolololol

Nobody cares what the students want to watch!

They care what the big money alumni want and where they make their millions from TV and SEC conference money. It ain’t soccer.

Alumni are changing and also how they make donations. Many UF and FSU alumni are not giving back to the schools and investing in their own and kids futures knowing their kids will not be getting into UF or FSU. UF and FSU have no choice but to try to become Ivy league type schools because of their poor locations. UCF and USF have the big I-4 corridor money rolling in. UCF has its downtown new campus, new medical campus, and at the main campus is clearing more land for new buildings and living areas with lazy river pools. UF and FSU can catch up to UCF and USF in the future with adding men's soccer.

UF has been begging for money every week. The newest pitch is having a bat named after the person if they donate thousands. The bats will be sent out into the night to spread their wings like the graduates.

              Dude, you’re delusional.

FSU and UF need to “catch up” to UCF and USF?

And adding men’s soccer is the way to do it?

Ok, you’re an idiot and have disqualified any future post for consideration. Good luck on your pending bankruptcy.

The reality is soccer is big in the USA and colleges that don't have men's soccer are behind. The reality is club soccer players will not be playing at UF or FSU because they don't have men's teams.

Why do you think FSU and UF went to using the Coaliton Application to garner 50,000 applications from around the nation and the world? UCF and USF were gaining a bigger market share of Florida's scholars, and if UF and FSU wanted their standards to be 4.4 GPA/1400 SAT then it would have to go seeking further outside Florida. Also UCF and USF have no trouble being big, growing, with diversity and maintaining a pre-eminent status without having to canvass the nation looking for top scholars and their out of state/international money. UCF and USF one by one look at each application coming in. UCF does it on a rolling basis. They really look at each student and have teaching universities. At UF and FSU it's a crapshoot to get in.

Check out USF merit scholarships. Many kids at UF left thousands $$$ on the table to live in Gainsville.

No one cares about a school having soccer except the few players who want to attend but there isn't a team. If they want the school that badly it won't matter. If soccer is that important to them they look elsewhere. The schools still have plenty of highly qualified applicants to chose from.

In the grand scheme of things no one else gives two sh*ts about men's soccer. Running a men's team also means more complications for Title 9, as well as running another money losing team. That's why 100 fewer D1 schools don't have mens' teams. With many schools questioning the costs of athletics in general (especially schools that have big revenue $ from football or basketball) don't expect more schools to add mens's soccer. If anything they're adding LAX because it is growing rapidly in popularity and not as many programs have it (72 men's D1 lax programs vs 202 for soccer).

More $$$ for those kids who want to attend USF and don't want to live in Gainesville for four to eight years.

Soccer is much more popular than LAX in the USA and internationally.

UF and FSU are businesses focused on bringing in more money. Out-of-state students are worth more money and offer the geographic diversity. When UF and FSU are each bringing in over $40,000 applications and space is limited, then they can be as discriminating as Harvard. The lawsuit against Harvard is into the second week and the Students for Fair Admissions will get to argue their case in the third week.

Harvard "The university also weighs a whole host of factors when admitting students that go beyond academics, extracurricular activities, athletics, and race, Harvard officials said.

When those 200-plus variables that are part of the admissions decision are considered — from whether applicants’ mothers or fathers are deceased, to their intended careers, how much they have worked, the average math SAT scores at their high school, and whether their parents attended Harvard — the difference in admissions rates between Asian-Americans and white students disappears, according to the university’s analysis.

“It’s never been test scores and grades alone” that will earn an applicant a seat at Harvard, said William Fitzsimmons, the university’s dean of admissions, who spent four days on the stand last week delving into the inner workings of the selection process.

While Harvard officials have been famously guarded about their admissions process, at one point arguing that their internal documents were the equivalent of trade secrets, the trial has forced thousands of pages into the public domain. Some are illuminating, others are embarrassing; many explain how Harvard whittles down an annual applicant pool of more than 42,000 students to just over 2,000 students admitted."

Everyone has to have a story to get admitted like a deceased parent, immigrant or race story, some great hardship they have overcome, a mission trip, or a charity organization they have founded. What happened to working hard in school and having a high GPA and test scores, being a kid, and getting into a college where they can begin to find out who they are and change the world?
