Top tier NESCAC schools = pretty impressive; bottom tier, = not so much
Jealous of what?? I just said I'm in the middle of it.
Of course there are players on NESCAC teams that are good enough to play Ivy.

Are you saying that there are recruits that turn down Ivy for Amherst or Williams?

BTNT at his worst yet again. Clever way for him to get off yet again on his "but I thought it was about the academics" and "if you're kid is good and it's about academics they'd be going Ivy."

It's a hypothetical for us, but if Ivy's only give need-based aid and a NESCAC like Amherst can pony up academic money and make it significantly cheaper, then it's actually an easy choice for us: Amherst it is. Sorry, but with Harvard's endowment for example, they can go pound sand if they think our family is going to spend $67k/yr for the Ivy name and our D plays soccer for them for free. They have the money, they can choose how to spend it, but we can choose to not attend. Harvard, like most Ivy's has decided that middle class families, especially upper middle class, aren't wanted. Poor "diversity" picks and wealthy legacies need only apply.

Kid has a 4.02GPA in all honors, has made President's list every quarter. Waiting to see where the test scores come in, but the reality is she is smart enough with the grades to get in wherever she wants and she plays ECNL and has interest from D1 schools so we have a choice to make. If she decides to go DIII and the "academic" package is good, it comes down to which school will provide the best education for the dollars we have to spend out of pocket and the soccer will be secondary. Her first and second choice are local D1's, but not Ivy. I don't see an Ivy in the mix given our HHI.

Stay away from Trinity. Spineless Administration and Athletic Director. Shameful shenanigans

There is no academic aid at NESCACs. The financial picture will be no different than an Ivy. So your speech about $70k schools applies here as well. Sorry.

Wasted rant: no academic $ at Amherst or Williams. Joke is on you!

She won't be offered good merit $ at top academic schools. You have to be well above the average applicants to get get anything. While you are clearly proud of her accomplishments that isn't enough for top schools. She would need to target a level or two lower whereher state would make her a top applicant. Its just how it works.

Harvard's, or anyone else's, endowment is irrelevant, as all D1 programs are restricted to a maximum of 14 scholarships.

                            What’s your point?

You do know that Harvard, like all Ivys, does not give ANY athletic scholarships.
They meet 100% of need. Sports gets her in, but only being poor gets you money.
Same as Williams, Amherst, etc. Which is why this hypothetical is nonsense

Stop with the "merit money" at top academic schools. At those schools, there are so many applicants with near perfect grades and scores that there's no way to decide who to give the money to - so they don't. Places like Williams or the Ivies don't give merit money because of league rules, so the place to look for merit money is at the next level down.

That's pretty much what the poster said and we all agree with - no academic $ at "top" academic schools and if you're looking for it you'll need to move down a few rungs on the ladder. So at plenty of these schools either you're not well off and qualify for a ton of FA, or you're very well off and can afford to pay full boat. Folks in the middle - who don't qualify for FA but can't afford full boat? You're sh it out of luck. That's why applications are way up at state schools. People are getting priced out of college.
