When NYCFC planted its 1st GDA flag, they tapped a moderately successful ECNL club that was essentially "all in" on board with GDA, in an area that had no other ECNL option to compete with and very few other clubs in the area worth mentioning. NYSC was an OK NPL club with a handful of elite and NT level players that NYCFC was able to attract, because their GDA badge wasn't announced until months later.

The situation on LI is very different. Fury players are loyal to PR and they've seen some success in their inaugural GDA year, you'd be hard pressed to persuade the players worth having to jump ship. East Meadow players that were interested in playing GDA already left and the rest are happy with ECNL. Most Susa players are multi sport athletes that want to play HS sports with very few having the level of ambition that is required for GDA. Massapequa and Brentwood (including KK Atletico players) got a taste of GDA this year with LISC and I don't think they were all that thrilled.

It's not like LISC just needs a few strong players to be competitive, they need a top to bottom makeover and there just isn't enough talent on LI willing to play guinea pig to sustain it.
Agree with all but with LI you have to add in the lack of a club credible/strong enough to operate in the DA arena.

DA + bad coaching = poor option
ECNL + good coaching = better option

Can't help but feel bad for the players who do want DA on the island because getting to NYCFC or NYSC is logistically nearly impossible for most, especially at 5:00 rush hour.

If they're keeping the badge, their poor performance, wobbly GDA start and uncertainty for the NE region will not help it get new talent.

But - is USSF booting them? Because I find it hard to believe they would this early in (normally clubs go on probation) and LISC serves a geographic purpose. Or is the club merely bowing out because it isn't working for the club (they either know they can't compete in DA, isn't worth the profit hit, can't get the talent needed etc)?

How does it serve a geographic purpose when FC Fury basically ended up in Nassau? The clubs practice within a few miles of each other and the 2 clubs completely overlap in geography. 2 GDAs + 2 ECNLs all based a few miles from one another is way too much. LISC ended up with scraps and can't attract within the same player pool.

Everyone knows this so USSF must know it too so what gives? What is their purpose in this? Does anyone understand the method to the madness of the USSF approach to LI soccer?

Fury was supposed to be based out of Bayshore, thus serving Suffolk, with LISC serving Nassau. Fury pulled a fast one and is based out of Nassau, saving money by using their ECNL fields (paid for by Albertson) and not playing or practicing in Suffolk. USSF had the wool pulled over their eyes. Suffolk is ripe with excellent players who do not want to travel to Nassau for practice.

Ok but the jig is up and clearly USSF will tolerate it so that means they approve.

Well, yes they would prefer PR -- I don't think there is any question in that. And don't forget LISC was never supposed to be what it was. It was basically thrown together after EM gave up the GDA.

USSF bears responsibility for their league as do all the other leagues. Players are free to choose whatever club they wish but what exactly do these league designations mean with no oversight? You really need to do your homework and not think these soccer league brands mean too much.

LISC absolutely needs to abandon ship. T IMO the parents there are doing their kids a great disservice. They’re not developing where they are and are only giving themselves a bad name by being on such an abissmal TeamSnap

Yes the LISC coach has been removed. Whether they quit or were fired depends on who you listen to. DA has no business having 2 clubs on the island. I’ll be shocked if LISC is back for another year

She "quit". In the corporate world its called resigning to save face from being "fired". Disaster.. the only good thing the owner has done since he got the status. Unfortunately, too little too late.

I thought the original coach also "left".

What coaches are we talking about?

                              HAWKS ANNOUNCEMENT APRIL 16TH
                              ON 17 APRIL 2018.
                              Michigan Hawks Players and Families

After several months of discussion, we have decided that the Michigan Hawks will not play in the US Development Academy League in 2018-2019. We will commit our first and second team into the ECNL for this next season, joining several other top clubs across the country who are doing the same. We believe that the ECNL platform will allow us to address the game day needs of all of our players by placing us against the most competitive regional competition possible.
