Brains may beat brawn, but brains without hustle ain't too good. What I noticed throughout my son's little career (U16 now), is that there were a lot of kids who had good skills but didn't hustle or chase down balls. They fell by the wayside even though they could trap/pass the ball and even had the right id. The problem is they wouldn't get playing time because they were such a liability to the team - i.e. they would never track back or try and get the ball back if they lost it.
So if your kid is on the small side, you need to make sure he gets it into his mind that he still needs to hustle and fight for the ball (or at least be a pest to the opposition).
