He never gave the credit where credit was due. Oakwood for the most part with a hint of CFC. He sure blamed Oakwood and academy when his team regressed to the mean the last two years though

Was credited with the fifth goal (though I would have scored it as an own goal) in the first game that actually counted, against a pretty good- by CCC standards- opponent. Part of it also is learning a new role- moving from defense to midfield this year.

                  Team Chastain!

Why is he a legend. Because he had a great run with a bunch of very good club players against high school talent in the ccc?

That was the same year that J.F. won the state championship.......as a player!

How can you fault him for regressing when he didn't even have all the best players at his own school to work with those years and all of their top FCIAC opponents in the tourney, for the most part, did. Of course he would rightfully blame Oakwood and academy, and also rightfully give them some of the credit for the success before then as well. I believe that his coaching DID have a lot to do with that success also though. The continuity that comes from playing the same possession based style that he preaches year after year, and his approach of wanting his players to stay super focused on the task at hand and never get complacent. Those things matter as well. It takes more than having very talented teams- GHS had plenty of those before he arrived but never won a title.

No, because he delivered so many memorable and significant results in the state tournament against teams that also had plenty of very good club players on their roster.

Let’s be real here. A handful of schools in the state have girls that have been invited, then continually invited back to the US soccer training centers along with National Level Id camps. Unfortunately, not all of those players are surrounded by players of their caliber in the high school environment. The better high school programs just have more of those types of players than the other schools. It’s that simple. There are no genius coaches in girls H.S. soccer.
