The way USYSA Region 1 has handled regionals, R1PL and ODP has been a disgrace. I don't think people would care about Palmeiro skimming a little if the players, coaches, families and volunteers weren't getting abused in the process. The competitions and the so-called ID programs run by Region 1 have become a joke.

Too bad to have someone who spent so much time and energy into building up a program, but then, ultimately, might have contributed to its fallout.
That said, how weak have all the other state reps become by allowing it to happen. There should have been a rotating directorship and a mandatory change of venue for each region 1 championship spread equally across. Of all places to hold such a tournament, to choose URI two years in a row amounts to ludicrousness and evidence that all others on the BOD knew what was happening.......and just simply let it happen.

In addition, depending on the extent of the fraud, you can't help but wonder who the heck is auditing their books. It's a big enough organization that there should have been checks and balances. We're not talking about a one-man operation here. Credibility gone unless they clean the entire house out.

USYSA might be satisfied with the outcome but I think the state police and IRS might not be ready to call it a day. Even in RI, there are laws against stealing.

I work in RI. Application of such laws depends entirely on who is doing the stealing.
The guy almost single handedly destroyed youth soccer in Region 1 and stole money but for some reason the media is giving him a soft landing on all of this.
MYSA should require all towns to do the same. Town soccer has all the same issues.
Town soccer sucks! You have a bunch of self-serving idiots who are there for all the wrong reasons. They mask it by doing some work, but for the most part, many are in it to get their Johnny and Sally on the A team. Our town is one of the bigger towns and it is worse than high school with the cliques.

I bet you our town is worse than yours. We have a guy that runs it that child left the program 10 years ago. He won't step down from president. The BOD passed a secret by-law that only people at their meetings are allowed to vote for the BOD. Then they hold meetings that are unannounced so they are the only ones that are allowed to vote.
