    Sounds like one big party.
The national team is not for everyone for sure. But for the ones who are willing to make the sacrifices it can be good for the resume and you get on national TV.

Why are we discussing national team on an Oregon soccer blog?

Probably because it seems to be the only card the GDA has to play....

        3. Cut the cost. If it really is $400 per month that is pretty steep.
        4. Eliminate the away games against lower quality teams like Burlingame and PSV and California Thorns. It is hard for girls to miss school events for low tier games.
That’s all. Aren’t there other ideas?

          4. The Thorn are one of the lowered tiered teams. Who would they play?

            1. Allow high school soccer.

            >> How do they field a team during the Fall schedule of DA if most of their players are playing HS

            >> Why would a club want to talk up the Academy and lose players to the Academy. No club wants to lose their best players to another club.

            3. Cut the cost. If it really is $400 per month that is pretty steep.

            >> Are you trying to get more subsidies from the Timbers/Thorns. The DA schedule is lots of travel and it is not free. The season is 2x as long as ECNL.

            >> The Thorns are in very last place in conference for 2 out of the 3 age group. Burlingame is no longer in DA. Californial Thorns is ahead of the Portland Thorns in all 3 age groups. Not sure what you mean by lower quality teams.

Local academy girls are happy with their choice so there is no need to change.

                  2. If you want it cheaper and the kid is a phenom US Soccer will scholarship them.
                  4. That's why HS Soccer was eliminated for a DA player.
What are you? A wise guy? Everyone already knows all of this.

You think your "brilliant" ideas can suddenly get kids to flock to the program?

thanks for playing but no parting gift for you.

This is worth a shot. I think at this point any ideas are good ideas.

I don't think any ideas should be discounted out of hand. People shouldn't be afraid to put ideas out there. The more different perspectives on this, the better. You never know, there might be an idea that helps out.

Some good ideas for sure, but highly unlikely that they will implement any of these proposed changes.

High school soccer is mostly geared towards school pride and camaraderie that sort of thing. Rather soccer should be thought of in terms of a serious pursuit where you sacrifice to get better. The gda will continue to lose many of the best players to high school sports.

The cost is probably not going down. Travel is expensive.

Away games against lower quality teams will always exist. In every game, one of the teams will be lower quality. Just the way things work.

Clubs in general do not benefit by encouraging top players to leave their teams. Also most think they can train the players better.

The ideas are sound but circumstances are at work against them.

I think you are on to something there. Soccer should not be thought of in terms of a serious pursuit. Life > soccer.

Some good suggestions but from a practical standpoint some of them are probably a challenge. Any other ideas out there?

                                1. Increase the training days and time.
                                2. Lower the overall money cost to families.
                                3. Improve training “Opportunities”.
                                4. More player appearances like Tobin Heath and Alex Morgan. Might as well invite Chris Ronaldo from Juventus.
                                5. Train with Timbers first team, especially like Diego Valeri. He is good.
                                6. Schedule more games to give kiddos more playing time.
                                7. Consult more with parents on input for training and game day tactics. Some parents have super good ideas.
                                8. Smile more often. It brings intense joy to those around you and will make you feel good and better about your situation wherever you are.

I’ll work and think of more ideas but wanted to publish my starting list as fast as I could.
