    Stars Teams breakdown explanations??

    From their website:

    http://www.starsofma.org/Tryouts/Bre...s/index_E.html

Stars openly calls their Athletics the "second team" however it certainly doesn't read like second team expectations or competition, at least U13 and up. Do clubs really expect this much at that level? Daughter wants to leave our small club to go here and I am a little nervous at the commitment level

Who cares NEFC troll? If someone is offended by being called a "second team", they'll still play for arguably the most productive club in the state both developmentally and with hardware. MPS, nefc and others are watered down with new leagues popping up to promote exposure and profit. Playing for a STARS second team is still in all likelihood a very good team w/good coaching so just get over it already or make the ENCL club.

Second team schmecond team....Regionals and State Cup qualifiers look good to me! Much ado about a title.

To the OP, don't leave your cozy little club if you don't want to work. The commitment is huge, the coaching is excellent and there is VERY little difference in commitment level and coaching between the top two teams in most age groups for girls.

Nothing against Stars teams. But are you saying that JD isn't about making money? Oh, I forgot, Stars is a "non-profit".

Huh? What does making money have to do with the explanation of Stars team breakdown...at all?? To me it simply says, playing for a competitive Stars second team could be the same as playing for another club's first team based on what their goals are.

Not a Stars player or parent but daughter is seriously considering them for try outs. Doesn't look like a second team offer is one to sneeze at.

Read post #2 closely. Good luck at the tryout.

It could be ok to be on the b team. The stars wants to have a stronger b team so they can compete in multiple leagues. Nothing more nothing less. The business they want is to have representation in every league so they maximize the revenue for a age group. Then they will try to build b teams and even c teams with the promiss that one day they can have you starting on the A team. saw the scheme and will not fall for it. B team is good but i know they A team will smoke them all night long.

Dont fool yourself in thinking at each age group they will be strong. Actually the b team is no better than some of the other b teams out there.

Depends on the age group. Do your own research. Look where the 'b' teams fall in their respective leagues, who the coaches are, and what their overall standings are in the state. (no matter what Club you try out for) and make your decisions accordingly. I have a starter on one of the Stars "B" teams and no one has ever promised her anything except that she with hard work she will get better as a player. These coaches don't make promises for each other. They can't.

Teams vary by age as to the quality of B and C teams. There is no reality to either the promise that a B teamer will make an ECNL team (I am glad to hear this parent say that has never been promised) or that they are close to the top teams in the state.

Clearly there are now two serious choices at the top - ECNL teams are one route and MPS and NEFC are a second different route.

The distance between these four teams and every other girls team in the state now has become remarkable. Yes, each has one weak age (including Stars and Scorpions) but only Aztec is close enough to compete regularly with these four. At younger ages several clubs can hang in but not by the serious years and that inlcudes Stars B teams.

The training on a top four/five team and the competitive calendar (most specifically the tournament competition) just does not compare and development suffers.

Regardless of this significant difference, you need to find a program that is appropriate for your child and the name of the club is meaningless. It's coaching, the competition and the appropriate level of play that matters.

Which age group are you referring to with the comment "the distance between these four teams and every other girls team in the state now has become remarkable," U15? I don't think you can say this for GU14 and younger --

You can definitely say that for GU13 (rising GU14s). Andre, Irwin, and this years State Cup pretty much dominated by NEFC and Stars. Scorps West proved that they are improving, but the real gap shows when facing any of the top 3 teams in a big game. They (NEFC and Stars) have an entirely different level of play that they can reach over any other team in the age group. This is where travel tournament action pays off for these teams. They have learned how to play faster and more accurately, especially under pressure.

Crikey. T-S was boring enough when we had to listen to the ECNL snobs, especially the Stars shills, drone on about their superiority. Now with MPS and NEFC's "historic" SC weekend we're gonna get a whole new set of blustering windbags, professing two "equal" paths....er... sorry......... two equal ROUTES. It's gonna be a long year.

Problem with your logic is NEFC and MPS had the strong State cup showing. I'm not sure why you think Stars had a strong showing across the age groups. One year shows a certain team had a good year.

Using Irwin and Andre things is not really a feather in the cap. It's just another tournament.
