    Time for Tampa Mega Merger

Mergers are happening all around the tampa area and florida in general. Now is the time to act. Here in tampa area we have VSI WFF (Brandon/West FL Premier merger), TBU (HCU/RSL merger from last year) and Clearwater Chargers/Fusion merger. VSI WFF has ECNL for the girls. Chargers have the US boys development academy. TBU while left out for now is located right in the middle of these completed mergers. Now is the time to go ahead and combine these clubs to form one of the largest clubs in the US. You then have the boys academy and girls elite league together, and a huge feeder program. Not only would you have high quality teams in the ECNL and US boys academy but also high quality teams to play in R3PL as well. Let's put differences aside and truly put together a club to rival any in the US. Any thoughts? Would this be good for the area to be a true national power?

Too funny to think about. The organizational meeting would be a pay-per-view event. Don’t think you could get a venue big enough for everyone heads to fit.

No need. Players in south Tampa can't handle competition.

Sounds like TBU is the one left out and without a chair when the music stopped. TBU will soon be nonimportant so sho cares about those back stabbing loser. The only one who cares about them is the DUI task force.

Sounds like a plea of desperation.Clearwater has already had a bite of the juicy apple when it got academy status and they screwed that up!
When all these other clubs seem to be doing well with their mergers andDoes this look like athletes foot to you? talk of a mega bay area club in the making with VSI the Chargers want to jump on board...
            Charger's/Largo might work though.

Their philosophies, personalities and powers-that-be are so dissimilar that there is a greater chance this country's deficit will be eliminated by a combined program of decreased spending and increased taxes than there is any chance of there being a mega merger of all three of these clubs.

Great idea, however too many GM's making a lot of money. Which one would agree to lose his/her job?
The Boards need to make that decision without the GM's
Also, some Board members are on the board, just so their kid gets on the "A" team, with the SUPER CLUB, their kid will not make the "A" team and they will vote against a SUPER CLUB.

Without an MLS franchise and without at least a couple of years for the newly merged VSI West Florida Flames and the newly merged Chargers SC (Clearwater, Tampa and Lakewood Ranch) to get up and running and at least one more year of maturation for last year's TBU merger, it will be impossible to push through a proposed merger of this magnitude. We are probably talking about more than 5,000 youth soccer players (including a Development Academy and an ECNL program) and a budget of between 7 million and 10 million dollars.

VSI seems to be a step in the right direction, at least in theory. We shall see.

The ink hasn't even dried on two of those three mergers and already you want *more* consolidation? Perhaps it would be wise to give these newly-enlarged clubs a couple of years to demonstrate there's some upside to all this recent merger-mania before committing ourselves to a single soccer overlord in the Tampa Bay region?

Just speculating, but I bet a merge of BIG clubs is much more difficult than a big swallowing several small clubs to result in on big.

once a club reaches the size of any of these three, the egos are proportianally as big as the clubs, and when that happens, there's no amount of negotiation that will satisfy the poo-bahs in charge.

The poster summed it up in 2 sentenses. No need to continue this thread.

                            Agreed.

                            Stupid question anyway.

                              Do not understand

The club will only be as good as the training staff. Why not a group of clubs chip in for a dallas cup team or disney cup team. Each player from that club player is allowed a tryout. Now this might be worth something. Take 3-4 older age groups to two end of year tourneys.
