ODP is just another method to extract money from parents. It keeps your kid playing more and ruins the whole families summer. My kid was in ODP for a couple of years and he now plays in college. Did ODP help? Only from the stand point that it kept him playing more. But he did not get any amazing training at ODP. However, I will not be sending his brother through it.

In addition, I doubt that they are 'looking' at any of these kids to field the next Olympic team. Its like saying that they look at kids in AAU to put in the next Olympic basketball team.

It is my feeling ODP is dying a slow death. The effectiveness of that antiquated system has been greatly diminished by the creation of the US Developmental Academies. ODP has taken a broadside hit and its still recoiling from the shot. ODP is desperate, and they either have to adapt or fall the way of the dinosaur. You need look no further then the FYSA website. Promotion /Advertising of Pre-ODP camps is a tell tale sign. It wont be long before you see U10/U11 Pre-ODP Academies

Post something about anythng and the loudest reponses come from the naysayers that didn't make it. They will anonymously say they did but if they were honest they would admit their angers.

ODP is great training if you are looking for it. Chances are your child does not have access to many quality coaches but if they do then maybe you won't benefit from it. Otherwise most people do. If you want your summers off then stay away. It's like sending your kids to a quality soccer camp for less money. YUes there are scosts but much less than going away to camp, which is what you will do if you make it. The coaches are usually pretty decent and the calibre of player is better than average.

If you make national team player, and yes florida kids do make this, then you have a very good shot at making the "Olympic" pool. Don't let anyone fool you as the National coaches at the higher levels are the Olympic coaches.

Granted there are many who fit the mold of your opening remarks. However, that far from describes any sentiments in my posting. Perhaps in its early days ODP was "great" training as you describe. However, the player development model has gotten re-tooled. Unfortunately for ODP and its supporters, they were not invited to help with the re-tooling. They were left to continue adding shiny new paint to that same old car. ODP will continue to take a major hits from ages 14 and up as the academy system grows and adapts. When the academies go official with their Pre-Academy it will be even worse for ODP.

In case you have not noticed, no one cares about girls soccer at the national level. They have ODP because they have to, but very little time and $$ are going towards this side !!

That is a crock. Right now, ODP is still a strong influence for college coaches to look at a player. Like it or not, if you have ODP, at any level, it is a starting point when you send info to a college coach, asking them to come see your team play. And whereas more money is put into the National Team on the boy's side, there is still quite a bit sent to the girls (where is the US Women's Team ranked in the world, vs the Men's Team). Anyway, there is sooooo much more money floating around for girls that want to play soccer in college than for boys. And it really does not matter how good your kid is, some of the best schools have the worst soccer team, yet they still have money to give due to Title IV. And it can help get your child in, if they may be on the bubble academically. So, if you think your child can think outside the box and is not dead set on UF, FSU, UCF, then ODP can get your child exposure to smaller schools within Florida and outside of Florida.

Oh yeah, and my daughter made some of her closest friends now through playing in ODP and is attending college with a few of them, on a soccer scholarship. I say give it a try, but be open minded.

Not a crock, actually right on !! Did you not read? Not talking about college? If you think they spend same time and $$ on girls side, you are living on fantasy island.
Enjoy college and yes ODP at Regional level gives girls big advantage, but that is small percentage of girls playing and going to college.
Glad your kid had fun, but does not change facts that girls at national level do not get close to what the boys get and never will ( even though they are ranked higher nationally )

Does ODP stand for "Olympic Development team"?
If this is the case, can you name a Florida soccer player representing US in the Olympic games in the last 8 years?
I remember ODP being promoted long time ago as the way to win the 2006 World Wide Cup and the 208 Olympics.

That is because it is extremely difficult to make it to the olympic team! Why knock ODP for that? ODP recognizes "potential" talent.... there are no guarantees for anything in life. If your kid makes ODP, it is another step in their overall development. It keeps hope and dreams alive. What is wrong with that? If you think ODP is overrated and too costly, don't participate.

                          Odp

I think the key point is ODP has the word development in it and it is basically a trials format vice a development format with development meaning a 1 week camp. You can go to a one week camp at a good college with college coaches which is cheaper and probably provides better development.

this is absolutely false.. college camps are nothing more than a summer camp with a little soccer thrown in... ODP is all soccer and the competition is much better. who knows what the future is but your statement above is wrong...

In ODP if you pay some extra money under the table to the coach, you son or dougther will be on the state team, if you keep paying coaches car bill, you son will be in the region team.I had see that, I can tell you names but is not allow to do it here.

Also is happening in the academies............Also I can tell you a parent and player name......
