    RI Tournaments

Can we plan a tournament in RI? Friendlies? Something for the kids from teams who are not traveling out of RI? Some town teams won't travel due to covid concerns. Others won't travel because not allowed to attend MA tournaments. (mostly clubs) Then there are the clubs or towns that don't want to head up to NH due to cost, or covid concerns.
We have all types of teams and parents here so an entire spectrum of cautious to not concerned parents.
Usually we have spring tournaments in state. What can we do for the kids in state under current rules?

Next tournament in RI will likely be Bayside Tournament in August. Nothing this spring.

Are you looking for a big tournament with team get-togethers and stuff or just to play games with a lot of clubs in a short period of times? If it's just for the games, I'm still hearing that Super Liga and SRI Cup will happen this spring. If you want a big "event" tournament, that's a huge undertaking to start planning at this point. If you feel safe having an event in RI it's probably better to just eat the cost and head to NH for one weekend and attend someone's event that already scheduled.

Looks like RI Surf is planning a Father's Day tournament as well. As far as town teams goes, it could still be an option if there are enough brackets.

Will NK/Ocean State be doing a Father's Day tournament, or is that all over with post-merger? Are they even doing the spring season? Their website only has info for rec in spring.

And the power struggle continues. Surf and Bayside both have a Father's Day tournament open for registration. Not to mention that will be the same weekend as the SRI Cup if all goes according to plan. Why can't RI put their heads together and have 1 tournament. So annoying.

Pretty sure that RI Surf is just keeping the old RI GPS father's day tournament going. I don't think it was anything nefarious by either club other than the fact that they don't communicate. I doubt either one wants watered down fields.

Poor dads make them go to a boring tournament on their day when they’d rather have beer and bbq at the beach.

Weekend tournament is usually over just in time to head to the beach.

As a dad, one of my favorite things to do is watch my boys play soccer. And as mentioned, there's still plenty of time for beach and beer. Win/win.

It's the Mother's Day SuperLiga games that may have questionable popularity.

Seaside Classic down in south county is in July and isn't affiliated with either Surf or Bayside. A little hot but usually competitive.

New to the state. What is SRI Cup and how is it different from the state championship tournament?

Also, the website says SRI Cup finals will be the weekend before Father's Day.

Is that on the ninigret runway? Very hot.

Agreed, that place is roasting in the summertime.

Travel restrictions being lifted so I think summer tournaments will happen.
Hoping to see some start up Memorial Day weekend. Always loved the Portsmouth tournament for town soccer but I doubt they will do it.
