Are you happy with your club?

Has your kids club provided valuable training, games and scrimages this season? Have they done all they can through the pandemic with changing restrictions? Will you continue with this club next fall or will you be looking for a new club for your child. If so, who do you plan on checking out and why?

Son plays for Surf. Total joke so far. Previously was with NEFC, which was run much better. Will be moving on after spring season.

If you don't mind people asking, if NEFC was run better then why did your family go to Surf? Did you just move with a team leaving NEFC?

Son plays for Surf. Previously was with NEFC, which completely neglected RI teams. Happy so far, but keeping options open. Hard to tell much of anything in the first few months of Surf, considering all the Covid bullsh!t. We'll see after spring season... assuming...

Several players from our kids club are now practicing with Surf, well before the pause. Surf looks to gain many players by spring or into the following fall. My question to surf would be are you able to handle the influx of kids from other kids. Will you have many teams in the same age group like A, Band C teams? Surf doesn’t own any fields as well so with all the new teams wear will they practice ? I think questioning your club right now is normal but jumping to Surf without fields and coaches ready for expansion could leave your kid with less playing time and less training.

All.coavhes from NEFC Southeast went to Surf. No NEFC teams nearby anymore so we were forced to make a change.

No your not forced to go to surf. If NEFC no longer exists in your region you still have bayside, Liverpool, Bruno, in RI. Nobody has to go to GPS I mean Surf. If you want better training and more playing time avoid big box clubs that buy up everything but have weak coaches who are really just moms and dads from town teams. Surf is placing coaches with their own kids. Surf is taking everyone no tryout necessary. No matter what your kids talent they will find a team for them. I guess I nice starter program for some but I prefer small, competitive and more serious. I want to know my kid made the team against tough competition not just got placed on a team because they need money to pay the better coaches at higher levels.

Deep into eastern CT drives is a downer for me. Just not an enjoyable drive.

                  Surf

Our son plays for surf as well. I posted about the club’s lack of safety during COVID on another thread. We moved over from NEFC with other teammates but have been unhappy with the surf. No outdoor field and things don’t seem organized. We will be moving to another club.

Funny, my kid plays for Surf, and they were practicing outside in the fall, right up until darkness became an issue on the field without lights, then they secured a field with lights and carried on until the end of the fall "season," such as it was. But we all know you're not really affiliated with Surf, you're just trying to keep new families from checking them out. Hint: families not in club soccer yet haven't even heard of this board, so you're wasting your time.

Although new parents may or may not come here, we need a sounding board, those of us on the club circuit. If your looking for a new club look for a club that owns fields and doesn’t rent schools as we can see during Covid the clubs with their own fields or at least a solid rental agreement are playing more. The clubs relying on school rentals are screwed. Now if your club is making you drive 50 plus minutes to CT for practice or scrimmages you should also look around. Lots of talk about Surf both good and bad. My advice look to clubs like Bayside who have local fields. Bayside has the most connections and best coaches around and you don’t have to drive an hour to practice.

Another stupid thread created by the muppets at surf looking to be spoken about. Give it a rest your a mediocre club. You have 5-6 full time coaches and some partTime coaches making over 30k a year. How are you expected to survive playing in a **** league and a **** structure. Give it a rest already people. SC as a owner has been with 3 clubs in 15 years. One he stole the brand, second sold into because he couldn’t sustain it him self. The third because he was sick of sending players to NEFC DAs. Meanwhile he’s promising he can get your child there for recruiting tool. Stop being so blind people and quit with these stupid threads.

I don’t think the OP has any love for Surf and don’t think this thread was intended to promote Surf as there is a few negative replies about Surf already. This thread is about being happy with your club. I will tell you there are many unhappy club parents right now in various clubs. Why? Oh maybe because they paid for club tuition expecting winter training, practices, futsal etc and were told due to Covid they are offering none of it and no decreased tuition. Super irresponsible clubs charging for winter season during a pandemic. We knew we would have no options. What do they offer us? Clinics that we can pay extra for. Lovely. So now parents are creating teams and leagues and playing one another. My prediction clubs will fall after this year. Parents are realizing they can organize a pretty good team and ask an experienced player or coach to train them in group trainings once a week the parents organize the rest through Wide World under new team names. Has already been going on but it might be the new normal.

Which clubs are not providing winter training? And why not? I know Bayside is still going strong. Younger kids indoors, older kids outdoors on their turf field, under the lights.

That’s the problem JF is clueless and doesn’t have the capacity to decently run a club. He was the main problem for GPS and will continue to be the problem wherever he works. How is it possible you charge families crazy amounts and not have a facility for your club. Other clubs in RI have they’re own field except for GPS/Surf he’s very disorganized. Then again RI doesn’t have a lot of options with all respect to the coaches and clubs because I was once a player for some of RI’s clubs it’s the reality of it you only have a hand full of options and gotta do what’s best for you kid.
