Not sure if this is a trend for other clubs/teams, but our team has had 8 players just drop and leave in the middle of the season. It’s crazy to see the lack of loyalty/commitment out there. We do have 24 players on the roster so perhaps that has something to do with it but c’mon why don’t families/players at least have the courtesy of finishing out the season. The academy puts in a lot of time and effort developing these players and they just leave, in the process leaving thousands of dollars behind. Is this common place in the game these days????

It’s all about what you’ve been led to expect vs. what happened. My kid played on a team that brought in lots of players mid-season because an “opportunity “ arose. Worse still, the team was supposed to be entered in two separate leagues to distribute minutes, but one never materialized. Whole bunch of players left mid-year. Couldn’t blame them.

Be glad they left. Now the roster is reasonable. Your kid and the others will play more and there will be less drama.
Familes have little obligation to clubs especially if the club isn't delivering on expectations or it just isn't a good fit for your player. You're the paying customer and you have to do what is best for your kid. Also know clubs are rarely loyal to their customers so why should they expect the same back?

The players that were missing training on a regular basis played anyway in front of players that were there all the time.
For the coach, you shouldn't be playing (much less starting) kids that don't come to practice (unless valid excuse). They should sit to start the game, and get what passes for minimum playing time. Kids that are missing practice because they went to a birthday party, they are tired, they are going to a different sport, it's too cold outside, it's a far drive, etc. shouldn't get any. Coaches that play these kids because they are your better players are complicit and are driving away the kids that put in the time. I know it's a business and that you have to win, but be reasonable.

If you complain because they are repercussions to your kid missed practice, then you are an ahole. Honestly, you should put your kid back in rec (or low-level town travel) if you want less commitment. That's not a knock, just the truth.

I totally agree with you conceptually but in some cases perhaps like the one above if the manager did what you’re suggesting they would probably not even have a team at that age group. So what comes first doing the right thing or doing what’s best for business??? Business wins every single time. Doing the right thing not so much....this starts with false promises to attract players and then once your check is cashed the rest is history. Sets such a poor example for the kids, whatever age group this may be at.

Never thought we would be ones to even consider leaving in the middle of the year but sometimes you have to realize why you left club A for B and if that was a good choice or if maybe club C could be better suited.
If you kid is playing bench on a 24 player roster and training vs travel isn't worth it then you need to move.
If you were promised one thing but club turned out to be another then also you need to consider moving.
Our reason, game to practice ratio of 1 to 4 which includes 4 scrimmages (3 against the A team below, our B team and the age above B team and a very low EDP Champion Div team), Added costs for winter training, poor over all training. The thought of doing another 5-6 months here is nauseating. They listed Jeff Cup as a tournament in the spring....If they do get excepted into it it will be ONLY because of the league they play in and would be so far down the flights it wouldn't be funny. We can stay in NJ and do an EDP tournament without cost people $300 for a hotel and wasting a weekend while playing the same level of garbage.
Weigh your reason for leaving and make sure it is for something that is worth while. I've seen parents take kids club to club on a yearly and even bi-yearly basis because they believe their kid is the next World Cup super star but doesn't want to go to practice or be on time for anything. Don't be that parent but don't stay in a bad situation either.

Side note - Always stick out a full season (ex. don't leave in the middle of the Fall unless there is straight up abuse happening) though.
