    D2 scholarships

It’s amazing that only 9.9 scholarships are offered for D2 women’s soccer. On rosters anywhere from 25 to 35 that seems incredibly low. Means most only get 1/2 if the are lucky. Some get none. Value academics people.

What's your point? D2 athletics are money losers across the board. Not even football or basketball get the big TV revenues that many D1 programs get. Why should there be the same number of scholarships as D1? D2 schools also aren't nearly as well endowed as big D1s and top D3s either. Several have been forced to cut athletic teams.

Academics are a separate factor. D2 schools generally, not always, aren't as strong academically. However they may be a great fit for a student athlete, both academically and soccer wise. Of course in the end academics matter but not all students will be qualified for or want to attend higher ranked institutions. Families make decisions based on all kinds of factors, even including graduating with as much debt as possible. Worry about what your family is doing and no need to crap on the decisions of others.

9.9 is typically the max, so not sure what you mean. Or maybe you simply don't know what youre talking about.

Wow so splitting 9 scholarships amongst 25-30 players seems like a stretch, does that mean that some players playing D1 or D2 ball get virtually nothing? Makes no sense.

Many D1 scholarships are not 50%.

The avg D1 roster is around 28. They get 14 scholies, which are not all allocated evenly.

That’s correct a lot get zippo and it you have 1-2 players with fulls that’s a lot. What makes it even more challenging now is the budgetary cuts as a result of COVID related revenue losses. Ripple effect will be felt for non revenue sports.

It's not only D2. My son is a freshman at high academic school in one of the most competitive conferences & few having a season. He has gotten playing time as a freshman but got no $. The prize was admission to a school that accepts less than10% of kids. Do not bank on athletic money.

So you’re saying academics is more important than soccer?? Crazy idea!

On the girls side most are using soccer to find the best academic fit, and $$ are the last thing that comes into play. For a big group they have D1 offers but no academic fit and they end up in Nescap or UAA. Some of the schools in those conference give athletes a slight boost.

Three's even less $ for boys - D1 programs only have 9.9 scholarships if it's even fully funded. There's 100 fewer D1 men's programs than women's and many more international players talking spots and money. Women have better chance of getting in the 30-60% range as long as they're a desired player. A top starter/difference maker or killer GK will get closer to 75% but full athletic rides are rare even on the women's side. There are plenty of players who get a few token $ or even none at all. Like you said the boost into a better school is the desired outcome for many soccer families.

No makes perfect sense. Think of it like a bell curve, the tail end being nothing or a few dollars, that's it. That's how it works. If more families knew this reality before high school there'd be fewer kids playing expensive travel soccer.

Good resource on the stats, one of many, but don't pay attention to the $ award as that is across all athletes, not just soccer. https://scholarshipstats.com/soccer

Is there such thing as a strong academic D2 school? If so, what are some examples?

There's a few tech school like Cal Poly. CO School of Mines and Embry Riddle, or Bentley is good for undergrad business....but that's about it. Lots of schools you've never heard or small branches of state school systems.
