    Lesson learned

Hopefully COVID-19 shutdown has brought to light what is absolutely needed in youth soccer, local competition regardless of club or league. Just get the best teams in the state playing each other on a regular basis. There are great teams in various leagues GAL, USYS and ECNL, would be great if they regularly played each other and you would not have to worry about out of state travel, overnight stays, flights etc. Just the best playing the best....that’s ultimately what it should be about.

Clubs will respond to customer demand. If more families bail out of the big and costly travel leagues for more local competition then clubs and leagues will adjust. If families jump right back on the hamster wheel little will change. Clubs will go where the $ is.

That is all well in good but I can be in Baltimore just as fast as I can make it MF. Nj is less then an hours travel wide and if you live near any bridge in SJ can make it to Pa teams faster then getting to most competitive NJ teams.

I find the league travel to not be so awful and we are ECNL (and were DA). The issue is the silly "national events" these leagues have, forcing you to fly to california, florida, colorado, etc. That is the real killer on the wallet.

First of all congrats on moving on from DA/GA we did the same and what a difference....not looking back. Also I agree the schedules in ECNL are much more manageable than DA which aims to play a whopping 20 game regular season, not to mention still competing with HS soccer for time which is assenine....they should reduce that to 10-12...and no Fall season. Makes no sense.

We just left CSA DA for an USYS club and it seems more organized, better training and they have actually kept their promises so far. There are plenty of good options out there if you take the time to evaluate, but it’s not always easy to assess especially when their are overselling you so always be cautious.

Since GA is now part of USYS, why should they be separate anyway? They should be taking the top teams and making one league.

Completely agree, consolidating at the top level would make too much sense!

Why should it be the top in the state? In SJ we can play Philly area teams that are closer then any relatively good team in NJ. Your comments suggest that the 2-3hr travel for some games is bad but then think it should be fine in state.

1 league would be great but will never happen. ECNL is elitist club only, GA is wannabies that can't get into ECNL, USYS is working hard to move into 2nd, NPL just won't die and GA announced that DPL will be the official 2nd teams league so we will see how that works out.

Instead of the leagues working together and developing an over lapping pathway from top to bottom they would rather fight each other.

They fight each other because they are private owned for profit businesses ....more interested in their own bottom line than having an inclusive pro player dev system...

Parents are part of the problem...much like driving a high end car having a kid play for a certain club and being able to post about flying to CA, FL etc for soccer is a one up in their mind....

Bingo...you hit the nail on the head. We were at a GA club and they fed us so much bull (daughter is D1 material, we will develop her etc) and when she got to U15 she played very little and their whole tune from a year earlier changed. The sad part about it is the team itself is not even that great so perhaps they are filling everyone’s heads with same narrative. Parents are definitely the problem, I know we were in this case....totally bought into the bs.

NJ GA so either STA, SJEB or CSA. My bet is one of the CSA teams but can see the other 2 clubs as well.

the best part of this fall was not having to attend any waste of time fly away events. i saved thousands. Let those huge events be for the real cream of the crop, YNT kids, NationalID, etc.
