No one is stopping your kid from doing that - but your kid has to be motivated to train on their own and most kids aren't. They need their lives organized by others and won't put in the hard work it takes to really succeed. Once you hit the HS years what separates the wheat from the chafe is more mental drive than skills based. Work hard and the skills follow.
