Why is any high school age player paying for soccer right now?

That sucks for all athletes trying to get recruited. It also puts any showcases into limbo before that date.

Showcases are more important and video. This is the only means for a college a coach to see your daughter play. I feel bad for the 2021 but if you were not already on a D1 radar before Covid you are not on one now. Find the best D3 academic program and hope they are still looking. Most are done also.

The 21s are basically done and have been for awhile. Early Decision/Action applications are Due Nov 1 to Dec 1. Most coaches moved on a long time ago. But now 22s are at risk. There won't be any showcases until late spring. Can schools have ID events if it's a dead period?. Legit question. Obviously D3s can but they'd probably have to do them offsite. Kids who were on early radars will be ok but that leaves a lot of juniors who never were seen last spring as sophomores, a critical time period, through summer and now until April.

It's a serious question. I guess my daughter, because:

            1) She loves soccer
            2) She doesn't love the idea of playing for her high school
            3) She doesn't play it, nor I pay it, exclusively for any college opportunities

For now there's no shutdowns of youth sports (lots of limits though). Winter is usually pretty quiet in terms of games so it's going to be lots of practicing outside maybe with local scrimmages or if travel within the NE states is allowed. Clubs need to put their egos aside and work together to get games for teams. Showcases are off for now so you've saved some money there.

Will parents want to spend that kind of money ever again?

So an extension to April 15th means D1 college coaches will not have met with recruits or seen them play live for more than a year?

Pretty much yes. Unless they got on radars before last March. Old rules for girls that would have worked for more players but now it won't. The non recruited 21s got screwed and now the 22s will be under a very tight timetable, and that assumes things resume after April (showcases and ID events).

Honestly I didn't expect this because football and basketball are the influencers with the NCAA and they're hit also. Then again, I didn't think it would happen a few weeks ago before cases started blowing up across the US. I wonder if things improve quickly they would dial it back? March?

Yes, absolutely. Not going to lie, didn't mind the extra free time and money meant a lot of work done around the house. But, we all miss it and enjoy the journey she's been on. Cannot wait to get back to full steam.

I am a proponent of club soccer. Have put two boys through and I believe it has been part of their development. But it's only part of their development. It isn't a fit for everyone.

With that said...for older kids that have pretty much developed and are looking at colleges there is no need for club soccer. One of the biggest reasons to play club at later stages (i.e. 16-19) is to get seen by coaches at showcases (Jefferson, Disney, etc) and to do the regional tournaments in the fall and spring. Without the showcases and tournaments, and with all games being cancelled in 2020 and probably spring of 2021) doing club doesn't make any sense unless you just want your kid to stay busy.

Why wasn't "it's fun" listed there? Honestly, it's the #1 reason.
