TBU ECNL U19 Playing Freshmen College Commits - PATHETIC

Just heard that the TBU Girls U19 team is rostering and playing (not just practicing, which is fine, but playing in games) a couple of college freshmen who are already committed to, and enrolled in college. As in, they graduated high school last year.

Yes, ECNL allows this, but how desperate and pathetic do they have to be to actually do this? Why is TBU not giving their non-committed players a chance to get more exposure? Why is TBU not allowing their high schooled aged girls a chance to develop their skills? Why are the college players and their loser parents not getting a clue that it's time to move on and to let others have their chance? Why are the TBU composite girls not able to work their way into the top team instead, as promised by the coaches? Are they all so desperate for a meaningless win?

I used to support TBU but this is just too embarrassing.

The commits are playing because they want to play and deserve to play. Play is the key word. Case closed.

TBU ECNL is tired of their losing records. Especially the 03s. This year it is wins above anything else, screw anyone who isn’t a top 11 player on the team. Huge waste of money for players 12-24 and the whole Composite team

Its what you do if you can't develop talent. It'll affect their commit list and the long slide will continue.

This is a great example of what makes TBU the destination club in the Tampa Bay region. Many, many college players are not able to play this Fall because their college seasons were moved to the Spring. TBU is providing a great option for these girls and everyone benefits. Just like the dozens of college players that come home to train at TBU during the summer.

"Yes, ECNL allows this,..." No rules broken and I heard ECNL is going to do a feature story on their web site because they think it demonstrates the strength of the ECNL platform when these college players are not cast adrift but taken care of by their home club.

I understand the surrounding clubs don't have nearly the experience supporting college players once they age out of club and need to criticize. One more reason TBU attracts the best student-athletes.

Is that the team that keeps getting trucked? I guess you need more than 1 college player on that team.

Everyone benefits? Explain how the un-committed high school midfielder or forward benefits from these college freshmen taking their spots. How will they get exposure or game film to send to coaches? How will the B team girl get a shot at making the A team is the spot is already taken by a college player?

How great these two must feel scoring against high school juniors!! Great ego boost I guess. Maybe they should ask to play for their HS again too while they're at it. I agree with the OP. This is a loser move all the way around!

TBU has allowed college players to practice and scrimmage with their old teams for years while on break. That's nothing new and is a great way to keep them involved. But playing in actual league games reeks of the selfishness of the players and desperation of the club and coach for a better record.

What a whiny little bi*ch you are. If it's allowed why shouldn't these kids - whose lives have been completely turned upside down - not be allowed to play? Did they beat your little darling's team? Or, more likely, did they take away PT from your kid? If your kid can't supplant a player one grade older, they're not going to able to compete in college where she's going to have to fight against seniors for PT.

We are talking U19 here, try to keep up. At U19, how important is it that the "B team girl get a shot at making the A team"? Again, at U19, "How will they get exposure or game film to send to coaches" - shouldn't they already have a ton of game film and exposure? Frankly, by U19, shouldn't the high school player already be committed?

The clubs that are so pre-occupied with wins and records are still stuck back in the Bazooka tournament and State Cup mentality. You accuse TBU of "desperation of club and coach" but they are operating on a higher plane than your club. They're not playing to win so they blow up Talking Soccer for a week bragging about an ECNL-R league game victory.

Not sure there is any evidence that AL is operating on a higher plane than TBUs competitors, but there is evidence that they aren't playing to win based on results to date. There is counter evidence that they were at least trying to win by dropping MLS players to their ECNL... so the jury is out on that. We shall see what they do on the girls side.

All that aside, at U19, it is just for the love of the game at that point.

Hey moron. If you weren’t aware, there is a pandemic. It started last year in March. The juniors were not able to finish their season, be seen by coaches and get game film, so yes, this year is very very important. And no, because of that they are not yet committed. It’s not that hard to understand but there you have it.

Given the NCAA imposed a dead period for 9 months, lots of college coaches are recruiting primarily by game film. Sadly, many HS juniors were scheduled to go on visits and everything came to a screeching halt in March. Film wasn't AS important in the past given in person recruiting events. I wasn't aware we were doing this and to the poster who said FP is doing it too, ***? Is that now our standard? If FP does it, its ok for us to do it too? We are better than that. If there were only 16 players on the team and they needed help during covid, well, ok maybe. But with 24 girls on the roster and you sit 6 players who earned a spot on the team so college freshman can play and hopefully grab a cheap win? Poor form.

The pandemic started in March of this year - not last year. You should use "seasons" not years. The juniors had 8/10 months of last season before the pandemic. You're saying there was no game film and exposure at showcases in those 8 months. Yes, the season was cut short but only by 2 months and 1 showcase. And that's why they are not committed?
