Just no. Soccer is primarily anerobic. You need an aerobic base, but you don’t need to run cross country to build that. Get in the gym and lift some weights. Work on interval training, shuttle runs, plyometrics, strength and agility. Get explosive. Accelerate, decelerate, change direction. High intensity, low intensity, high intensity again. That is soccer.
Get a tennis ball, a skills ball and a size 5 soccer ball. Juggle starting with the tennis ball and work your way up to the size 5. Put some cones down and work 1v1 skills with both feet. Work on passing and 1st touch with a wall and a ball. Work on shooting from the dribble, finishing from different angles, different distances. Put a trash barrel 20-30 yards out and try and cross a ball into it. Does any of that sound like running 5k’s at a steady pace every day?

It would be great if they could have a conditioning plan but don't really seeing a teenager doing that physical training on there own without a fulltime conditioning coach. Something after school at the school like x country is more realistic and definitely better then nothing at all.
