Soccer Highlight Reels in the Covid Era

So I know there are some mixed thoughts on the video companies offering to put together highlight reels for recruiting purposes. My rising junior son had planned on getting some footage over the spring with his club team. Since they ended their season in February he never got the chance to film any video. He attended one id clinic in the later summer (out of state) to get the feel for the process. He wants to reach out to coaches but its hard with nothing to show them. He is attending another id clinic where video is available however I'm not sure what type of package is truly worth it. First off its in MA so that means following the crazy rules. He is a defender with good balls skills. What type of package would you get? Minimal because who knows what the event is going to show with the rules in place? Or would you invest more since there is limited time to get anything else?

I'm not an expert but I am going through this with a rising senior who lost the critical spring club season and summer ID clinics. It seems to me that highlight reels are helpful but it is more important during Covid to have a full game video.

Don't pay for a company to do it - you can do it yourself for far less plus you need to get HS footage as well as club once it starts back up again.

Coaches know these are strange times. They also can't see players in person and who knows when showcases and ID events will get back to normal. Having footage ready if they want to see something is a good idea. They can tell extremely quickly if there's something there or not

Don't worry about P5 - the state has barely a handful that will get a sniff

Here’s one for you smart guy, the D1 college coaches my D talked to June 15 all said the same thing: get us full game video, including HS. One local D1 coach said he was planning on seeing HS games in person if/when the blackout was lifted and would watch video if it wasn’t.

That’s current reality from D1 Women’s coaches, heard directly from their mouths when D was talking to them on speaker.

Feel free to wait until club matches are played again, and maybe the NCAA blackout period is lifted. Meanwhile, coaches are still recruiting.
