    HBC Labor Day Tournament Cancelled

Not surprising but good decision in the circumstances.

I'm betting that it has more to do with field availability than it does any safety issue.

Really, I think you would lose that bet. Do you really think it was fields or Liability. Would you as a parent have signed a piece of paper not holding either the club, tournament or county liable if any member of your family would have gotten Covid-19 after this tournament and possibly die?

You sign waivers for other injuries too....

Yes, because i realize that walking outside carries a risk and i dont always plan on suing everyone all the time but hey, others can feel free to worship our overlords and thank them for making all decisions.

If i want to avoid the risk, i could just keep my kid home and we wouldnt attend. A waiver shouldn't even be necessary since merely showing up is implied agreement that you're taking a chance. There were diseases before covid and there will be diseases after and we dont sign waivers to guarantee our safety in a world where guarantees can't exist.

If everyone could follow all the procedures to do a tournament safely then we can have the tournament. But there always seem to be a few yahoos who think the rules don't apply to them and ruin it for everyone.

Look at all the colleges that had to cancel their plans after one week because of the ones that refused to follow the guidance.

This is so dumb, why would you sue someone if you or someone in your family got Covid at a tournament? How is it their fault? You made the choice to go. No one put a gun to your head. You didn't have to go. You know the risk, if you go and God forbid someone got sick, that's on you.

yes, common sense should be more than adequate. Masks for all spectators and players when not playing. Limit on # of people per player that can be present. No food/drink available on premisis. I wouldnt care if i had to sit in my damn car as long as the kids got to play.

I have signed a waiver and I am collecting them for a tournament this weekend.

I know several people who had covid and a few died. I also know several people that have cancer and died. I broke my collarbone playing rugby, I went on to play several more years with other injuries.

                  would you like bubble wrap?

agreed, so stupid - suing someone because you think you got COVID at a tournament, maybe you got it in the supermartket or gas station or walking somewhere - you have no idea. If you're that concerned, stay home or double mask and keep away from everyone.

Glad you find humor in this. The typical parents on this thread that lack maturity. The ones that refuse to wear a mask or follow any guideline but forth by the medical community. Let’s see if you will have a problem when /if they have to stick a tube down your throat to help you breath. Every parent would love to see their kids playing soccer Labor Day weekend and the entire fall. Every parent would love to see their kids attending school in 2 weeks, play school sports and club soccer. Unfortunately, either these occupancies are uncertain or they just will not happen this fall. Those are the facts. So hope your “Smart ass” answers bring a smile to your face. Peo a lot smarter than you are making the important decisions based on the real data put forth by the medical community who know a lot more than this administration and President.

The medical community actually involved in this have said from the beginning that lock downs, mask wearing, etc is not to get rid of the virus but instead to slow the rate of spread to prevent the hospitals from being overwhelmed by everyone getting sick at the same time. Sure, for the elderly and immune compromised maybe they can literally lock their door and never leave their home for years in the hope that this all blows over and they don't get sick and die. But for the rest of us that continue to go to work, shop for food and other necessities, etc ... we are all going to get exposed sooner or later. The only question is when. For 99+% of us we will either not get it or if we do get it we will get over it quickly. For the remaining <1% things may go sideways. But again, there is little that we can do to avoid that.

Correct. We are now estimating at ~49% the people who will REFUSE a vaccine even if it is offered. Like it or not, covid is with us in some capacity for years to come. If half of the people will refuse a vaccine, will they not be risking spreading it to grandma and grandpa, anyway? We have a virus with a 0.7% mortality rate, in NYS at a 0.3% infection rate and a positivity rate of only 0.7% on tests. I am not sure what more everyone needs around here. This is the best outcome we could ever have hoped for after the lockdown. The hospitals are empty and the medical community has made great strides in understanding how to care for sickened patients.

Let’s clarify your point. What the medical community said from the beginning is absolutely accurate as you stated. The medical community wanted the quarantine for 10 weeks which would have brought us to approx June 6th. The medical community then wanted 6 weeks of wearing masks, washing/sanitizing hands, socially distancing and avoid crowds. Then Trump said he was smarter than Fauci, the CDC, NIH, etc. by pointing to his own head and said he listens to his own metrics and declared that everything should open by Easter Sunday. Then RED state governors like Florida, Georgia, Texas opened immediately by ignoring the medical communities.
So where are we today: Colleges have cancelled fall sports, colleges have cancelled classes for online learning, soccer leagues have cancelled tournaments and our schools have no guidelines for opening. In other words we would not see a return to normalcy (hopefully) till the Spring 2021. In all begins in 76 days when the voters can overwhelmingly vote Trump gone. He has brought hell upon us with no empathy towards anyone but himself.
